Thread: Which profession will make Vehicles/Spaceships?
I always assumed we'd have an advanced Mechanic profession to deal with vehicles and Spaceship Engineers to handle building and maintaining spacecraft.
I guess an argument could be made that the Mechanic profession would be too sparse, at least to begin with. If that were the case, it would probably make sense to drop the relevant schematics in Droid Engineering, since that discipline has experience with motive systems of various sorts and could use a profitable sideline.
For spaceships, even if it has its own associated profession, I could see requiring bits and pieces from weaponcrafters, armorcrafters, architects (interior furnishings), and droid engineers (electronics), as well as a Chef-stockable galley to keep those pilots well-fed and on their toes and some Tailored flight suits with special properties. But we'll see what develops.
I'm not sure exactly how it works, so realistically I couldn't say what profession would be in charge of Vehicle Mechanics... As a guess I would thinkDroid Mechanic. I hope that they add a new profession though since it would make more sense that way.
I think the same for Spacecrafts. And with the expansion I definitely hope there's a new profession for this one. To say that they won't because the developers are waiting for people "to have enough credits" is a little flawed. The Spaceships will still cost huge amounts of money to build and sell(if they are player made) including interdependent parts from other professions that can't even be made yet. So it's my guess that it could go either way - either available through NPC's or Players.
If they go NPC, it'll simply bea cost factor.
Player-made would involve an insane amount of work and production logistics, but would certainly make the game environment very interesting. Player-made spacecraftmight even give people starting later a chance to play a profession that isn't already well established.
That's my opinion, but I couldn't make a guess which one they'd choose; either the easy way, or the more interesting way.
As far as the spacecraft, I'd see 2 new professions here, pilot, and mechanic. One to make the ships, and one to fly them. And the mechanics could also make some new, advanced vehicles at their lower levels, once the space expansion comes out.
That would be a cool element to the game... And would also provide some great advantages to Pilot Smugglers, where they could be hired to smuggle items to and from Merchants.
This is definitely a great game, and has lots of potential too.

Artuk
I see one profession Master Pilot with the skills trees: mechanical, space andaeronautics, Navigation, and combat tactics.
the engineering aspect will be left to the artisans. It had better be![]()
The Devs have said repeatedly that the space expansion wouldnt be till next year. It would be first great expansion.
I think the space expansion would be really cool, but what I'll be really jazzed to see is vehicles! Landspeeders! Yeah...

I thought they said the expansion would be ready 3 months after release?
OK, 2 different things here.....
The vehicles, mounts and player cities are 'delayed features'
Starships and flying between planets are slated for the space expansion next year.
I have a feeling the Space Expansion will see quite a few new professions. Maybe something like another starting profession named Pilot. Then an elite profession after master pilot that opens into stuff like dogfighting/combat piloting. Also more elite professions after engineering/master artisan that are maybe vehicle designer and/or starship designer.
It'll be very nice in a few months when we get some tidbits on the SE.
And which class do you think will end up building the Spaceships when the expansion comes out? I remember the Devs saying that the space expansion will come out about the time we can afford to buy ships, so if money in game is their concern it dosen't sound like they'll be adding a new profession for that either.
What do you think?
