Thread: Q: Experimentation and Crafting

Could someone please explain to me how the experimentation system works when making items re: What skill and level you need to have to do it, where you can do it (either on you personal crafting stations or public crafting stations), etc.

Also, are public crafting stations only accessible by people who have moved on to advanced professions? ie. Architect, Weaponsmith, Armoursmith, etc. I am working towards master artisan so I haven't moved beyond the starting professions, and I just don't know what's beyond.

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've been searching everywhere for an explanation of this stuff. I feel like everyone already knows this! And I don't know where they got the information, obviously I'm looking in the wrong places.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Experimentation starts at any of the level III artisan professions, I believe. At that level, you can start to slightly change the design by allocating experience points to attempting to modify the design in such a way as to make it stronger, better fire rate, etc. The down side is that you also have a chance, again increasing with the amount you want to modify the design, of making the item worse or having a critical failure. Once you have succeded with the experiment, you can allocate that design to aschematic and then take that to the Public Crafting station. Also, when you create the schematic, you can assign how many units of that item will be produced by that schematic. You make make as many as you want, but realize that the amount of resources you will require a large amount of resources to be deposited also.If you don't think you have to bea high level artisan, but as far as I can tell they do require that you have schematics for mass producing the item. What happens is that you put the schematic along with the required number of resources in the unit and "voila" out pops the requisite number of units of that item.

by using the correct tool while standing near the corresponding station you will be given the option to experiment (i.e.) clothing and armor crafting tool while standing near a public clothing and armor station

So that's how you do it! Okay, I didn't realize you used your own kit, but had to be next to the machine. I thought I was supposed to use the public station myself, but since it wouln't let me, assumed that I wasn't at a higher enough level yet.

Thank you.

As for the schematics... when I'm standing near the public crafting station, will there be an option to make schematics? Or is that only after I experiment? I'm not sure I understand how that part works... please explain.

When you use your specialized crafting tool at the public stations, after you successfully mix up the ingredients for your item you get 3 choices, create prototype, create schematic, and experimentation. You'll want to choose experimentation first. After you are done with that category, you will get the first two options to choose from again. I don't know if you can create a schematic AND prototype or not since I've never chosen to create a schematic. I'll have to try that when the game is back up.

You can only do one or the other, not both. If you make a schematic, it gets placed into your datapad.

Are the created schematics only one-time uses or can they be reused? They take the same amount of resources as a prototype so there is some risk involved, and I want to be sure that if I start using schematics that I can use them as a template multiple times otherwise it is not worth it right now. Another Q: How do you get the schematic out of your datapad into the Public Crafting Station for use?
