Currently, vehicles differ mainly by their speed (13 / 15 / 17 mps), theirterrain negotiation (negligable)and their cost. Since the swoop is faster, it requires more resources and is thus more expensive. This is both unrealistic (as the other two vehicles are inarguably larger) and a weak representation of Vehicles.
Vehicles are great as transportation, but currently pretty much everybody is running around in swoops since they're the fastest and nothing really differentiates them besides speed. Here's something that had been suggested before theVehicle patch went live that would improve the versatility of vehicles, add definition to the different vehicle types, and improve the market for different types of vehicles.
First, the schematics are going to need to be changed. They will include components, some optional. Second, vehicles need to have all of their hitpoints increased 10x This is because they are no longer going to loose condition as a form of refueling (very unrealistic) and repair costs are going to be cut by five (so a fully damaged vehicle will require twice as much to repair, but they won't need to be repaired very often). Instead, vehicles are going to operate off of energy cells similar to droid batteries. A single energy cell would cost about 500 resources and last for 2-3 hours of driving time (depending on the vehicle). A vehicle repair kit would also be available for field repairs, but be more expensive and time consuming than repairing in a garage.
Schematics:
VehicleEnergy Cell:
Casing -100 units of metal
Protective Lining - 25 units of Inert Petrochemical
Reactor Fuel - 375 units of radioactive energy
This item is not experimentable.
Vehicle Repair Kit
Case -200 units of mineral
Scanner Circuitry - 150 units of copper
Spare Part Compartment - 300 units of Alluminum
Vehicle Lubricant - 75 units of lubricating oil
Damage Annalysis Unit - 1 droid control unit
It would be experimentable based on overall quality anddecay resistance forcharges and effectivenessand would repair between750 and 1.5k damage per charge, at between3 and 10 charges per unit.
X34 Landspeeder
Frame - 4200 units of ferrous metal
Chasis - 1800 units of non-ferrous metal
Guidance System - 1 micro sensor suite
Ignition Circuitry - 1 energy distributor
Storage Compartment (optional) - 1 droid storage compartment
Armor Plating (optional) - 3 similar composite armor segments
Storage Compartment will provide a 10 unit storage compartment similar to the ones droids can be equiped with.
Armor plating will increase the resists of the vehicle by 25% across the board except Blast vulnerability.
X34 landspeeder would be the highest-HAM vehicle at around 25k HAM, and most fuel efficient at 3 hours per fuel cell.
Speederbike
Frame - 3400 units of ferrous metal
Chasis -1600 units of non-ferrous metal
Guidance System - 1 micro sensor suite
Ignition Circuitry - 2 energy distributors
Armor Plating (optional) - 2 similar Composite Armor Segments
Armor plating will increase the resists of the vehicle by 15% across the board except Blast vulnerability.
The Speederbike will be comparatively fragile at 15k HAM, and only gets 2.5 hours to the fuel cell
Swoop
Frame - 3400 units of ferrous metal
Chasis -1600 units of non-ferrous metal
Ion Engine - 400 units of reactive gas
Acceleration Padding - 100 units of Fibreplast
Guidance System - 1 micro sensor suite
Ignition Circuitry - 3 energy distributors
Turbocharger Unit-1 power conditioner
The Swoop is the fastest, but most fragile at 10k HAM and least fuel efficient getting only 2 hours to a fuel cell. The swoop cannot take any optional components.

These changes to the vehicles are great. Possibly add some optional components for changes to speed ore terrain negotiation, as well. This would allow for experimentation and that would create a great deal more variety.
