I think it was Sinist who said that:
"There are 8 professions in the artisan/elite skill tree. There are 10 other professions besides the artisan/elite professions that require some form of inorganic resource (no matter how small the amount). I totally think that 8 professions are going to be able to keep up with a total of 18 professions. Especially when most of them only need a ridiculously small amount of resources."
Now, having been a master CM I feel I might have a word or two to add here.
I did some digging on Alakazam and checked out the resources needed for a few random items craftable by a few random professions. Now, granted I have probably not taken everything that is needed into account but I still think the numbers should be reflected upon.
I have diffrentiated between Extracted Resources (the ones that would be limited by application of one form of Extractor Certs or other) and Harvested Resources that are allready limited by the fact that you need to buy them off a scout or ranger.
And I have used the Advanced Components at all times (seing as how nobody would buy something made using non advanced components anyway)
Mind area C: 365 units extracted resources per unit (0 harvested)
Area Stim C: 160 units extracted resources per unit (34 harvested)
FWG 5: 173 units extracted resources per unit (215 witch scope) (0 harvested)
Bookcase Master: 350 units extracted resources per unit (0 harvested)
Dathomir Cammo Kit: 10 units extracted resources per unit (190 harvested)
Tripple Stun Layer Composite Helmet: 526 units extracted resources per unit (30 harvested)
DRX6 Carbine: 455 units extracted resources per unit (491 with stock) (0 harvested)
Enhance Action Medpack D: 158 units extracted resources per unit (54 harvested)
Intelligent Nano Nutrients: 35 units extracted resources per unit (75 harvested)
Nemodian Birdcage: 29 units extracted resources per unit (0 harvested)
Moun Gold: 45 units extracted resources per unit (0 harvested)
Speederbike: 6000 units extracted resources per unit (0 harvested)
Muzzle: 10 units extracted resources per unit (0 harvested)
Speederbike: 6000 units extracted resources per unit (0 harvested)
Muzzle: 10 units extracted resources per unit (0 harvested)
I have purpously left out buildings as anyone knows that architects need an insane ammount of resources for those (and funnily enough most architects I have seen are violently opposed to Extractor Certs).
Other things that might be worth noting:
Enhance Woundpacks are by neccessity parts of a 6 item package. All requireing about the same ammount of resouces, making the item "Full Buff" cost about slightly less than 1000 extracted reources and (guessing here) about 360-460 harvested.
Poisons, Stims, Woundpacks, Spices and BE food components are definined by their turnover. They have a finite number of uses and are often crafted in bunches varying from 10 to 1000. (the theoretical maximum ammount of Poisons or buff medpacks that can be wrought from the same schematic is limited to 499 though) Therefore these numbers should be taken into consideration. Even though I do understand that a weaponsmith will produce a large batch of his FWG pistols to sell, the turnover of weapons are lower than that of the disposables. The most fair comparison would have to be powerups (which is why I added a Muzzle to the list just now)
The Speederbike do use 6000 resources to build, which seem impressing. But they are a highly sellable Master Artisan product and to my knowledge one of the more resouce-demanding ones as well. The niemodian bird cage ended up at a measly 29 resources though.
The Dathomir Cammo Kit is in there mostly because I wanted something from each of the non-artisan crafters and that was what I found first. I do believe that the camps require more extracted resources but a ranger might be helpfull with that information.
So, do non-artisan craftersuse very little resources? I say most of us fall quite fairly in the middle.

Um, yeah... and right now I'm 0002 artisan. I have been higher at times and I have been completely without artisan as well, but that hardly matters, does it?
