Thread: Pricing of resources

Hello,

I am curious as how one goes about pricing resources. Seems to me a good way to make money(love selling flora to docs), but i would like to now how to price metals/water/flora/chems/gases. Don't worry about including power pricing, I like my power to much to sell.

Thanks

Depends on the server. Like you, I'm on Shadowfire. 2 cpu for most grinding stuff does well, but there are some cheaper places. Best way to figure out how to sell stuff is to compare to other sellers in your market and price accordingly. If you want to be high volume, then price lower than everyone else and advertise.

You can also make lots of money selling high quality resources to niche markets. For instance, good doc resources generally sell well and at a much higher price than normal grinding resources. Ore is harder to mine (lower spawn densities), so it will usually sell faster or at a little higher price. Also, people are saying that good ore will be even more valuable in the near future. For me, I decided several months ago to sell to the niche jedi market for lightsaber resources. Lets me sell at a HUGE profit and make plenty of cash. If you want to sell to a niche market, then first figure out what profession you want to sell to. Go to swgcraft.com to see what resources they need, and what resource qualities are most important to them. Then mine that stuff and let people know you have it. Setting up a chef resource vendor (for instance) can help chefs know to come to you and not waste their time shopping all around the galaxy. Repeat customers are important for niche markets.

Either way, use swgcraft.com to find the current resource spawns. That way you can make sure to harvest good resources when they spawn, and you can make more money this way. There's also a harvester tool on that site that will help you figure out how much you spend mining each resource. You'll find that you can actually make a profit selling resources at 1 cpu, but honestly, it's a lot of work for little profit.

Personally, I sell general stuff for 2 cpu, ore for 3 cpu, and doc resources for 3-10 cpu, depending on quality and rarity. And high quality resources that I mine, I save to sell to niche markets. Niche markets can be hard to price - depends on how much money your customers make and how hard it is to find good resources. On shadowfire, docs pay very well, chefs and armorsmiths pay pretty well. Most of my stuff sells eventually, except for inert gas. I may need to drop to 1 cpu or so for that stuff. Since you're on shadowfire, check out Brenn and Mos Vegas to see what people there sell stuff for. And of course, check out my shop on Dantooine if you want setup and pricing ideas. Good luck.

I've personally settled on a formula that prices most resources between 4 cpu at around 70% of ideal to 10 cpu for 100% of ideal (the trick is knowing what is ideal for each profession). I figure almost every profession should be able to turn 7 cpu resources into finished goods worth at least 15 cpu, so both the crafter and miner get a good deal with this pricing.

For me, flora sells better than inorganics. Perhaps this is because I understand the flora market better. Perhaps this is because the inorganic market is saturated with resources while nobody else on Scylla sells as much flora as I do. Regardless, I have have been able to consistently take 20 lots of heavy harvesters and sell the output for an average of 6 cpu consistenly for the last9 months straight.

lol that's kinda funny.

Heh, do you know if ores spawn any higher than mid 50 per cent? spent a good hour this morning only to find 54% of the nice ore on naboo.

Ore and water both spawn at concentrations effectively 2/3 of normal resources. Just like a 99% concentration of a regular resource is extremely rare (though I have seen it), a 66% concentration of water or ore is also very rare. I don't harvest much ore or water due to the lower concentrations. I tend to buy water and ore for resale.

Depending on how much time I have and how critical the resource is, I am usually content with a 70% spawn of a normal resource and 47% spawn of water/ore.

The waypt to my shop is in my signature. It's on Dantooine at -544 2883, just north of the mining outpost. I used to have everything on 1 vendor, but switched to 3 vendors last month. I think it makes for better advertising the way I have it now. This way, docs see a doc resource vendor on their map and are more likely to head there. People looking for grinding stuff will see a 2 cpu resource vendor, and will be more likely to hit it than a vendor that just says 'resources' (my old vendor name).

I was looking around Shadowfire today, and did find a few 1 cpu resource shops near Coronet (even bought some stuff from them to re-sell on my vendors at a profit). Most of the super-cheap (1 cpu or so) resource vendors that I know of don't keep their vendors well-stocked for very long, but it is possible to run a cheaper resource place if you want to. I find that 2 cpu is about right for the traffic I get in my shop though. I sell about as much as I harvest. Some stuff just sits on the vendor longer...
