How stupid. I tried to use a D!ck and Jane story here, but the filter made me change the name to Daryl. So if your name is D!ck then SOE thinks you are foul.
Okay I have been seeing people rent lots out to others and it just seems like that’s a lot of pain to keep track of who has your harvester and when they log on and meeting up with them to plant it. So I got a hair brained idea. Maybe it’s been brought up before; maybe it’s a bad idea. I dunno so that’s why I am posting it here. If it sucks, just say so.
If I want to rent a lot from someone I have to send them a waypoint and have them plant the harvester for me. I also would have had to catch up with them and give them my expensive harvester(s). If a resource runs out then I have to continue paying rent on that harvester until that person I am renting from logs in and pulls it up for me.
It would be nice if there were a command like: /rentlot # playername
Typing this in would allow the specified player to plant the number of harvester(s) on one of their allocated lots. This would also allow them to pull up that lot they were granted rights to. This would be a one time deal and if after they pull up the harvester they wanted to plant again then the landlord would have to give the command again. In other words it’s one use plant and re-deed per command.
Daryl wants to rent from Jane. He has 3 harvesters he would like to place. Jane types: /rentlot 3 Daryl
Now Daryl can place his harvesters without dragging Jane all the way to Lok and risking her low level life to plant harvesters. When the resources dry up Daryl can go pull the lots up himself without Jane. He doesn’t have to trust Jane, her Internet connection, or RL issues with 3 of his 110,000 credit harvesters either.
Another command that could accompany this one could be: /evict # playername
If Daryl has kept his lot way longer than Jane ever intended thenshe can evict him. This command could send an e-mail to Daryl notifying him that he has 1 week to pull up his harvester or it will poof. If Daryl gets the e-mail and acts upon it then it is his choice which of the harvesters he pulls up. If Jane really needs one lot back and Daryl hasn’t been around due to his own RL issues but has paid up 6 months worth of power and rent then she can spare him by typing:
/evict 1 Daryl
That will only destroy one of his harvesters and she will have the one lot she needs.
This would NOT apply to houses, guild hall, or any city type structure. Only harvesters would apply here.
Due to the one week eviction capability it would be wise to rent lots on a one week basis and renew as needed.
Also if you need to know where your lots are rented to and the names of tenants just type:
/tenants
That will list who is renting your lots so you can evict someone if need be.
I am sure none of this will come to pass, even if it does turn out to be a favorable idea. I just think there are way too many other things they are working with to give a nifty thing like this attention. But I wanted to see what everyone thought about it. Thanks.
***EDIT***
Added the idea of /tenants due to TheMalle suggesting the idea fo forggeting who have rented to.

I am not usually a crossposter, but I made this post in the Artisan forums and I thought it would apply here. Actually I meant to put it in here and not the Artisan, but I don't wanna redo it :/

This must be one of the best ideas o nthe subject I've heard
The only thing I can see as not working, is to limit it to harvestors only. As it is now, I believe it only counts how many lots has been used, and not what type of building is placed on each lot. Using a /rentlot command could "give" one lot to the other player, but I do not see it being able to restrict what buildings could be placed on there.
And, if this was implemented, I'd like to see an "/evictAll" command too. It can happen that you forget who has your lots (presuming there is no list), and it can be just for convenience. Of course it would evict all rented lots
On a side note, as you say, there's no big chance that this is implemented (in the near future at least). Until something like this happens, you can use static harvestors if you want to be convenient, and have yourself on the admin list

So long the lots are somehow marked as rented it sounds great.
I can see this hapening though. You rent a lot from Jane. You over stay your welcome and Jane types /evict # playername.
Your house goes poof and not the harvestor.
