I just noticed that a resource that shifted in just four days ago has despawned already. I track resource shifts pretty closely and they have always been in shift for between seven and ten days up 'til now. Has anyone else noticed any strange resource shifting?

I was just thinking the same thing.
The last several resources I've mined came in the day I dropped the harvs on them and barely lasted 4 days. Could just be coincidence...wondering if other servers are seeing the same thing.

Well the Iron that I've been harvesting currently has lasted about 6-7 days so far.
I actually expect it to run out when I next log on.

By and large, most resources last 7 days or so (usually from Sunday to Sunday for me, lol) but I DID notice a couple resources recently that only last 4 days. Previous to that, I can't recall getting harvesters set up on a fresh spawn and having that new resource last only 4 days.
Maybe they're trying to put a dent in the massive resource horders? /shrug

one theory is that there is x ammount of a resource available and it will at most last for a given ammount of time. Once either the harvest limit or lifespan has expired then the resource despawns. This would expllain why some resources only last a few days and other seem to last for weeks.
If abunch of people harvest 1 resource then it will despawn quicker.

The following applies only to inorganic resources.
I would have expected to have seen this before in that case. I have been watching resource spawns virtually every day (or even multiple times per day) for the past six months or more. I have never before seen a resource despawn in less than 7 days. I know the resource patterns pretty well. Usually there is a single 'shift' per day, when over a period of 5-15 minutes all the resources that are going to despawn that day despawn and all the resources that are going to spawn, spawn. These 'shift' events happen exactly 24 hours + server downtime apart. If the 'shift' is in the evening one day and there are no publishes/hot fixes/unexpected downtimes I know that the next 'shift' will be twenty-thirty minutes later the following day. Each resource lasts for exactly 7, 8, 9 or 10 days of server up-time.
At the moment I'm hoping this short spawn was a fluke event caused by the JtL code push. I'll be keeping a close eye on the newly spawned resources to see how long they last.

Actually the devs are very sneaky on when a resource despawns, what they do is track when people check their harvesters to see if the resource is still spawned.... once a certain % of the server has checked at a given time the shift the resource.

lol
Back to the subject..
I have also seen a increase in the shifts... I think rare resources shift faster than not-as-rare ones... but thats just me ![]()

I've been playing this game since beta. On lowca, resouces didn't shift for about a month when the game first started. The devs had to trigger the resource shifts manually fora few months until they got the resource spawning code iron out.
At any rate, I have seen resouces spawn for four days. I have seen resources spawn for 14 days. There really is no rhyme or reason behind the length of time a particular resouce has been in shift. The only quasi-pattern I can see is that a lot of times there are "rare" resource spawns (a named resource used in something like RIS armor or an advanced medical component, etc.) and those rare spawns don't stick around for very long. Other than that, most spawns last for about 7-10 days.

Yeah, I concuur with Animi on this. On Shadowfire (where I started, I play on Chilastra now), resources didn't shift for three months when I first started. As a newbie, I didn't realize they were supposed to, and with such a long time between shifts, I had no reason to think so. Until one day... boom! everything changed. Hehe
Yah, there is no fixed shift interval or time anymore. Some spawns last a long time, others a very short time. I don't know why or if there is a pattern.
Personally, I think the resource code is a bit wonky, but I can't prove it.

I update Eclipse resourcesat www.swgcraft.comon a regular basis, and have not seen any short shift resources since they started patching/upgrading the servers for JTL on Aug.31
Inorganic still lasts 7-10 days, organics 7-20 days of server uptime.
Rare resources still spawns on 1-3 planets/moons, regular resources spawns on 8 planets/moons.

What I have noticedsince the initial patch on Aug.31
Before the patch, resource A could stay 7 days on planet AA, 8 days on planet BB, etcup to 10 days.
After the patch, resource A despawns on all planets at the same time.
There's a lot more of the former rare resource, iron.
Before the patch, you had maybe 1 spawn of iron in the galaxy.
After patch, you have plenty of iron spawning in the galaxy, but they still spawn on 1-3 planets/moons.
2 resource shifts pr day. Before you had 1 shift pr day.
