Hey Goo (heh heh, just thought of that),

Any idea when the devs are gonna release Sandbox participants? I know a couple other professions already have their picks. Are we gonna find out soon, or did the people you picked already find out?

Thanks, bud.

I'll announce our team when I get a few more concrete details, like when it's supposed to start and such.

Soon.

Hiya NewJedi, saw that Panthu had her list up, thought I'd ask what the plans were for our side of things.

What the heck will the Sandbox involve, anyways? Testing out the new Combat Revamp, I know - but will there be dedicated testing sessions for certain things (nights when we almost needn't login) or will it just be a free-for-all to have people run around and do whatever, and see how everything works?

Just curious about what details are available at this point. NDA and all that, too - will one apply?

Thanks any update, NJ! Later on, man!

To me, a sandbox or laboratory environment will never be able to simulate what the changes to this class will create on the live servers. Entertainment problems are matters of perception and psychology, which happens all at real time. Testing the true heart of these classes is testing jokes, testing characteristic responses, and testing the visual appeal of routines. What my problem is with the emphasis on sandbox play as the solution to our problems is that it will do nothing to solve the real problems we have as a set of classes. To test those things, one needs players only the live servers contain.

Because no matter how much we test entertainment functions, the problems of entertainers have nothing to do really with functions. It has to do with the complexity and general aesthetic health of giving and receiving those functions in a live server environment. And one just cannot simulate that in a closed laboratory.

We'll just have to give it our best shot I guess!

Honestly, since this is going to be a combat rebalance I expect it will be mostly focused on combat, and not with any problems inherent inherent in the Entertainer system. However, after seeing the things that came out of JTL - which was supposed to be SPACE ONLY content - I am not going to underestimate the power of the Ent Corrs!

The sandbox is going to be just that, a testing sandbox, each night you'll be expected to log in, meet the conditions they set for the test, run the test, and then report on it. Lots of stuff that won't have anything to do with whatever profession you were "picked" from, you're there not as a Musician, but as a tester.

Yep, the combat "upgrade" (I think that'sSOE'slatest term for it) will involve signficant changes to HAM bars, and we do have a role to play in buffing and healing those bars. So I expect we'll be testing our heals and buffs, not how well we wield a rifle or carbine.

As for timing, I don't think we'll see the sandbox until after JTL goes Live and the major kinks are worked out in hotfixes and whatnot. Even then, it may still be a while.

As for names, I submitted my five names to the devs a while ago. I was under the impression we were supposed to keep the list of names under wraps until we're closer to actual testing, since people may leave the game or whatnot in the interim. Also, several of us Correspondents have beencoordinating on who to pick so we don't take duplicates, and last I checked, one or more of those Correspondents hadn't submitted a list yet.Anyway, Panthu has posted her list, so I'll ask her what's up with that.

lol, ok thanks for the news NJ

And yes, I very much suspect we'll have some stuff to test. I've heard some rumors - which of course are only rumors. Who knows what's behind them. But yes, our professions will see some changes (Entertainer, Dancer, and Musician). No matter what, we'll need to represent! Entertainers represent!

I think it just might provide an outlet for expressing some needs our community has had for awhile, like fixing that stupid %TT thing lol. Or, it could even provide an opportunity to pitch a new buffing UI of some sort (our last question about that got shot down since UI people were on JTL...).

What's more Combat than Mind buffs, seriously? They're so highly valued, people pay $15/month to have a second character, and they work on devising semi-complex macros to make it run all day without interaction. Though it's a sorry state of affairs for our professions, it shows how valuable our skills really are. I think, in the interests of benefitting both Combat players and Entertainers, a buffing UI would be a good fit for the Combat Revamp. Ask any Combat person - they'll tell you - a Mind buffing UI would be a huge improvement over the system as it stands.

This "sandbox" could get a LOT of attention from the Devs, too. Might even provide "face to face" encounters in-game. It depends on how they run the testing. I'll interested to hear how it all works (if there's no NDA, of course).

I have to agree that since this is the *combat* sandbox, the entertainment/social aspect of our professions won't come into play.
We do currently have a role in combat in our healing, and our buffing, so any changes/interactions with those would need to be tested, and we'd be the ones who know about that the best.

Yep, the combat "upgrade" (I think that'sSOE'slatest term for it) will involve signficant changes to HAM bars, and we do have a role to play in buffing and healing those bars. So I expect we'll be testing our heals and buffs, not how well we wield a rifle or carbine.

TH is indeed working on those design docs. No ETA on when they'll be public, though.
