Thread: steel???

Hey I currently play mainly on the eclpise server, and I just recently got a second char to become a crafter, I was wondering if it was generally common for steel to "grow" in patches? I noticed on every planet I went to that steel was only in certain spots

Hmm.....from my understanding, steel spawns as any other machine harvestable resource spawns...with the exception of relative concentration caps. Some areas there won't be any...some areas will have high concentrations...and others, everything in between. You really need to zig zag a planet with survey 4 to find the highest concentrations.

It's a random distrubution. A spot may be have a good something for a few weeks, but eventually there'll be a time when there's nothing worth harvesting.
It seems (to me) that extreamly hilly terain has a tendancy to get higher concentrations. It could be just it stands out more to me when I find a nice concentration and can't place a harvester though.

I believe you are correct. Some of the best resources I have found were at their highest concentrations in one of 3 places: 1) Static Cities, 2) Player Cities, and 3) Mountains / Hills. There were a few "sweet spots" that could get a Heavy, but those were fairly rare from what I could find. Not to mention they filled up with harvs in a matter of an hour.

Because of JTL, steel is like gold on some servers right now. Cheap grinding steel is like a thing of the past unless you mine your own. So if you do find a good concentration of steel, mine the heck out of it.

there is a patch about a k south of kadraa that almost always seems to have almost all resources in good concentrations on most servers.
