Thread: Proposed change to harvesters for 8/20 takes all the challenge and risk out of mining.

I'm rather depressed about the proposed change announced to day concerning harvesters. Blair quotes that harvester maintenance points (MP) and power will now stay with the deed upon re-deeding.

This change takes all the risk and challenge out of mining. This little mini-game is done for.

Before this proposedchange you would have 5 days of worry free mining. Upon the 5th day, you'd have to decide is the resource worth speculating on further? Do I risk placing more cash and power into the harvester? What if it shifts, I could loose all this money? You had some honest to goodness cost/benefit analysis to perform.

With this proposed change, now everyone can load their harvesters with MP and power for 10 days..risk free, worry free. No challenge, no risk. If the resource shifts, big deal, just redeed, place it somewhere new.

I'm saying this as a miner. I'm saying this even as a few of my harvesters sit on sub-par quality resources while higher quality stuff spawned a few days later. But I'm committed to those resources because I paid the maintenance. You win some, you loose some.

Thischange kills what I thought was a unique mini-game.

No I'm not kidding...

Thispretty much kills offthe miner profession, what there was of it--and that's not hyperbole either like most "this profession is dead' arguements. Time and risk are the two things miners could absorb over other professions, and made them viable.

I would never wish the death of any other profession. Why mine?

Um... I didn't know there WAS a miner profession...

Wasn't it removed because it's illegal to serve miners in the cantina?

I know it's common belief that the only professions that exist in the game are the obvious ones given to you by the game.

But there areother professions based on other systems in the game. Some of the best combatplayers have not mastered ANYprofession, and simply take the best out of eachprofession.

Miners had aviable place in the universe. I forsee this being greatly diminished now.

Why would anyone have redeeded a harvester before? Or you are talking about the large ones?

Personal harvesters cost like 30% of what it costs to redeed them. Destroy and buy a new one is (was) the smart thing to do.

It was also stupid that you couldn't take your money back after paying, same for power. This doesn't allow that, but at least it doesn't just disappear into nowhere, which was incredibly stupid. You may have enjoyed that broken aspect of the game, but this change is for the better in the opinion of the majority of people who mine. And majority>you.

Thanks for the constructive criticizm Waho....I'll put your comment "that's stupid" right up there with Gaadzooks!! And you needn't remind me how to mine. I was teaching people how to mine before you were building your type 18 firework. I rarely use small harvesters anymore. Mediums and Heavy.

The system before involved speculation in a very innovative way. It involved risk and challenge. I haven't heard one way or the other whether the system before was intended or not. That fact is irrelevent. The resultwas achallenging mini-game that many people enjoyed.

The people who despise the resource system are a select group of crafters--mainly the ones who do not want to be dependant on anyone (probably against schematic revocation too, but that's another topic).

I realize my voice is just a small one. No one listened to miners in beta, why should they listen now? But I love the profession, and I'm gonna put up the best fight I can.

Yikes...

Either you are sensing some sort of insult that was not in my post or you are just rude.

I was saying the way the game worked was stupid, not you. It was stupid that you put money in and power in a harvester and couldn't take it out. Maybe not the money (no refunds... ) but the power at least. Sorry for confusing you but I wasn't being insulting.

And I don't make fireworks, nor do I care how fast you can grind.

Allow me to illustrate a couple scenarios that may shed some light on possible reasons for this change...

"Oh no! That 10000 unitcylinder of energised liquid I just accidentallyput in my harvester has permenantly jammed inside!"

"Whoops! I just typed 5000 instead of 500 in the payment panel of my harvster. No worries, I'll just withdraw some of it. .... What?! Invalid function?! it's keeping all of my money!"

I also believe this is (in part) a bandaid fix to the factory bug that's been plaguing us for a VERY long time. (After 100 units are created, you have to redeed factories or they will just eat resources in the input and produce nothing)

LOL Squidbush. My most recent fat-finger experience was 4500 instead of 450. Great - now this puppy will run for 8 days. Too bad the resource will probably dry up in the next day or 2. Too bad I was out in the field and only had 5000 wind on me before the fat-finger and 5 harvestors to go. I welcome this change. Were the devs ever even reconsidering a mining profession? It seems to be player wishful thinking and this change would indicate that the devs are NOT moving towards bringing a miner class back. Logically speaking, power should not just dry up when a resource goes away - does my lawnmower gasoline instantly dry up when I throw the mower in the truck and haul it over to grandpas to cut his grass ? I know this a game and not reality, but there has to be some semblance of fairness and logic involved. Now if I pay to have my car tuned up and decide to sell it without ever driving it again, my bad, not much I can do about that . . . I don't really have an opinion one way or another about a miner class since I wan't around for beta. There would seem to be arguments both for and against it if you look at it logically. But it seems the devs are having enough trouble keeping balance and happiness within the existing classes without adding another one that wasn't very successfull (from what I've read) in beta.

Huh? Risk? What risk? There was no risk. It was stupid to rip off players credits/power. I always end up redeeding my harvesters. I'm not about to buy a new medium/heavy harvester each time there is a new resource cycle, so there is NO choice in redeeding. So I end up having to lose money each time I need to move. You may enjoy babysitting your harvesters and micromanaging them, but the majority of players don't have that kind of time to be wasting. It wasn't a mini-game, it was a burden.

I just re-deeded my Equipment Factory and lost my 2500cr so it does cost to redeed.

I think its a blessing espcially since I had been checking the resource vein after what was supposed to be shift, 12hours after the shift pulled up all my harvestors and redeeded them got them rolling on a 85% vein, come back hour later they have all shut down resource is gone. Thats fine but now im out 3days of power and maintance, and for a casual gamer thats to much. I think this is great that they are doing this,
