Thread: Who would like resource depleted email notification
I hate checking on a harvester after 3 days only to find that the resource depleted on the very first day.
I would think that a piece of equipment smart enough to notify you when it starts to take damage would also notify you when it runs out of resources to dig for.
Thread link - Wouldn't it be nice if harvesters weren't so dumb?

Well than a simple solution to this issue is . when the harvestor stops mining the maint and power should stop being used. regardless of a resource shifing or not. As you have said this is a server issue and not one that is our fault.. so this should be changed so it does not affect us monitarily(sp)
Well, i see your point... Database wise
If the harvesters are only loaded when people get close.. I would imagine resource spawns are similair?
If the resource spawns are statically mapped out for an entire planet AND the server knows about the resource locations regardless of player activity..
AND AND ANDif the DB knows the location of a characters harvesters. They might be able to know when a harvester is out of a particulair resource.. BUT based on the "harvesters not being loaded 100% of the time" thing.. I would guess that the currently selected resource is only known when the harvester is loaded.
So, i will assume this will never change.
After placing my 3rd harvestor down and filling up the other two... roughly less then 30 minutes later the resource was depleted and when I came back 3 days later I had about 50 units of ore in each. Needless to say, I was VERY angry.
It would be nice to have some type of notification.
For those that have a resource shift right after placement - always check www.swgcraft.comfor resource data. It's not comprehensive (some galaxies are much better than others), but sometimes it will save you the pain - if you see that a resource is "old", don't go after it. If it says it's 2 days old, it still might shift (as it could have been around longer than 2 days), but your risk is lower.
This can also be a nice way to see if a resource has shifted without checking your harvester. Again, it's not comprehensive, but there have been times when I did not intend to travel off planet to check a harvetser, but www.swgcraft.com indicated that the resource had shifted out.
I would love an e-mail. But that's the breaks of having harvesters. You need to check the all the time. I hate it, but I need to put gas in my car all the time too. Buy the way. Why is it that I fill my tank every time and sometimes I get 345 miles out of it and some times only 275 miles? I wonder if the 2 are related. Do you have the answers Devs?
