Thread: New player needing advice

I've been playing the game less then a week, and my start up business is in trouble. I have about 2k cr to my name right now. I didn't realize maintanance would be so expensive. I do however have 3 Wind generators (2 are 7 efficiency opperating at 47%) and a miner (but it's in a bad local).

My first questeion is this, is it worth keeping a miner running it it's actual rate is 1.1 KG/H? And does that mean it will bring in 1100 units in a 24 hours period? It seems to be expensive to run and it's cheaper to destroy it and buy a new one then to redeed.

Most importantly, were do you sell your resources? I put up 7k units of wind energy in groups of 1k for 2 cr/unit today. After looking at the baraar, there's a lot of unsold power and some of it is cheaper then mine (though 2 cr/unit is the lowest i'll go). Do the successful players sell on the bazaar? Through vendors? Or in person? Do you have deals worked out with crafters and other miners?

I'm thinking about switching from the power business to the chem/mineral business. What selkls the best and where/how do I sell it?

Regards

Wind power is highly inefficient and really only worth it to operate your own small mining operation. It's ridiculously expensive to operate compared to output, and excessively expensive to redeed - in fact I think it costs the same to redeed as a fusion. Fusions will be able to out-produce and undersell you every time. There's just no market for wind power.

My advice: scrap the wind harvs completely, and give up on the power business for now. Run missions until you can afford 1 solar. Make some personal mineral harvesters. Slap those down and start selling the proceeds of the mineral harvesters, using the solar to keep them running. Here's the key - small harvesters are NOT worth redeeding. Catch a mineral on the first day, and you can leave your harvesters in place for a week. Find a really uber metal or a really nice concentration. Destroy the harvesters if they don't have an appreciable amount of maint at the end of the week when the resource shifts.

Keep running missions. Repeat until you can afford one fusion (100k-200k, depending on server). Fusion power is cheap to produce and sells quickly. You will be able to use the fusion power to run your harvesters and sell the rest. Then you can upgrade to medium harvesters if you haven't already done so (this part depends on prices on your server - most mediums go for 10k-20k, but on some servers it's even higher *boggle*).

I have a few suggestions, I started out the same way as you, after I mastered artisan I made me 5 wind harvs, and ran artisan crafting missions to keep the maintenance up until I started selling the wind energy. Though nowadays wind is going out and fusion is coming in. I would suggest running the crafting missions and continue to try to sell the wind you got until you can get enough to buy you a fusion generator. It is considered a heavy harvester for energy.

When I started selling my wind energy I just stood at the coronet startport shouting. I didn't go the bazaar at all because of said unsold energy already there. I would suggest selling by shouting, or talk with some of the other crafters on yoru server and see if they will buy some from you. Also don't forget to save some of the energy for yourself to power your own harvs.

I bought the fusion i have for 50k, sounds like a lot but you can prolly sell the wind energy you have for close to that much and can make up the rest with crafting missions.

Also check out www.swgcraft.com they have tons of info on exactly what your are looking for. Awesome search engines for any and just about all resources you can find on your server planet by planet.

Hi there new artisan!

All the advice is good. Here's what I would suggest.

Selling resources on the bazaar is a rough biz. Uber grinders want to buy resources in 10,000 kg increments or more, and they're the ones (for the most part) who don't want to spend time harvesting their own.

SO

Get into business for yourself. Generic Crafting Tools sell well in larger towns. Any new scout needs one, and they'll head right to the bazaar for it. At first, your quality will be poor so you won't be able to charge much. (Be sure to check the prices and quality of the compeition to get an idea of what your prices should be. And don't be afraid to head to the next town over if your's is flooded with cheap goods).

After crafting tools, get into weapon power ups. (all of this is up the engineering skill tree). Be sure to experiment on the items you sell to get them as good as possible.

You should be able to make several thousand a day on these two goods.

Couple more tidbits of advice. Weapon and Armor repair tools should be avoided until you can make really good ones. You'll have mad people mailing you if your tool wrecks there favorite weapon or armor.

Once you are sufficiently up the engineering skill tree to make harvesters, you can grind those to quickly get yourself to master artisan. Once you can make vehicles and other hot, in-demand items like that you'll be rolling in cash. It would appear that there's a lot of money in the weapon and armor crafting professions, if money is your goal.

Oh, and if you decide you just want to make money from the artisan mission terminal, work your way up to level 4 in a combat skill and get a pet or friend and group while getting missions. It seems to make your mission payoffs a little higher.
