Okay I can understand removing encumberance from game because they did not finish vehicles yet, but they are now in the game.
So any news on when my lil 5 foot skinny girl will no longer be able to carry a million tons of ore in her lil ole backpack?
We now need Haulers: Droids or driveable speeders.
Currently SWG is the only game close to Ultima Online: Pre 3rd Dawn on the market, except for the total disregard for the laws of physics.
But I guess I can overlook storing my 2 vehicles/4 rancors/etc inside the lil ole backpack, but no reason not to make ORE weigh something now.

Why on earth would you ever ask this question? First of all, wrong forum, second of all... why would you want this??

I would love this especially with JTL coming.
But I doubt they'll add it because it will piss off too many large operation crafters.

You do have encumbrance in the game currently... sort of. You cannot carry on your person more than 110 items (50 in a backpack and 60 in standard inventory.) Now assuming that resources are about 1Kg per 1000 units; that means that a full load of resources when you are in your panties and bra with only a backpack on would be about 11000Kg, or 5500 Lbs. So, you have to have some imagination, since it is a game, and realize that the gravity on all the planets in the game is far less than what we feel on earth.
Regarding the vehicles, if you notice that when you call the vehicle it drops out of the sky, that is because you are actually sending a transmission from your data pad to the FVG (Flying Vehicle Garage) that brings your vehicle and drops it in front of you. There are similar service vehicles for droids and pets, the FPK (Flying Pet Kennel) brings your pet to you when ever you need it.
This is a game and not real life, it is fun to play and role play and imagine. If you want the game to be real life then turn off your computer and go get one. I for one will remain online and have fun and execise that side of my brain that imagines.
Thanks for reading.

Okay, 1st off. <checks forum title> Yep, ARTISAN forum. So IS the right forum...or did the MINER profession resurface from beta?
2nd... 1Kg per 1000 unit??? more like 1Kg per ONE unit and that is on the light side. So your backpack, bra, skivies + 110 units of ore would be more like 5,500,000 lbs or 2750 tons!
3rd... large corparation can afford haulers.
4th... I come to online universes to get away from real life thank you very much. But if they ever add screaming 6mo olds to any game, you can be ensured I will not be playing it.

why would you want encumbrance added?
to better align with the laws of physics??? two words for ya - the force...not exactly something that can be argued that fits into the physics of the real world. I'm ok with that. this is a game based on fiction so if i can carry an entire house of furniture in my backpack well maybe its because my backpack is actually like a D&D Bag of Holding. nothing is really in my backpack because everything is actually located in another dimension
now how to explain all those resources my weaponsmith toon carries ... in his hawtpants.
doesn't matter though really, some things follow real world logic, some things follow game logic. matter of convenience to the game mechanic /shrug

Realism? This is a computer game about Star Wars. There's nothing remotely 'realistic' about that. If you want more realism, maybe we should have to wait hours and days for the shuttle, to represent the 'real' time it would take to travel between planets. Sometimes realism just isn't fun. We have enough inventory problems, encumbrance would only compound them.

I wish the miner profession would resurface. I have suggested it (I was not part of the beta) and others have also.
One unit of any resource can not possibly be 1Kg each. Within the mechanics of the game if you place a 4BER Personal Mineral Extractor ona 75% concentration of Iron that gives an actual extraction rate of 3Kg per hour. After one hour your harvester will have more than three units in it. I am not trying to start an argument here but we are probably both way off on our estimation of what resources weigh. I thought I read in one of the Crafting/Surveying guides on one of the web sites that 1000 units was 1Kg.
I was merely trying to make the point though that this is a game and it takes an imagination to play along. In this case maybe the resources we carry around are only place holders such as deeds are for buildings. when you actually pull resources from the ground or a harvester you unknowingly put them onto a cloaked corgo ship that follows you around and when you need resources to craft something the amount you need is placed into the crafting tool and crafting station from the cloaked ship. So, you are never actually carrying the resources yourself.

i am still not seeing why you would want something that makes things more difficult for everyone. its a game, i don't get it.

...if there is a cloaked ship following me why can't I cloak myself also?
SWG crafting has its roots in Ultima Online's crafting system, where you had 1-3 packmules following you around while you mined. For the more creative miners, they had their SUPER bunnies <fetch> the whole pile of ore and carry it to the forge.
I am sure "packmules" were originally slotted to be in SWG, but vehicles were not finished before launch. The concept of 1 unit weighing the same as 10000 units does have me baffled, not sure why that needed to be coded that way.
Encumberance would mean that it would take more than one scaddly clad artisan to carry her haul back to the "forge". Convoys of guild truckers that had to deliver the raw materials, that could be hijacked by...well just about anyone.
Maybe in JTL, encumbance will be added and you will have to load your ship and carry the ore that way.
