Thread: New resource miner seeking tips...

Hi, while I was wandering my galaxy trade forums, I came across a post of one of the galaxy's top Armorsmiths retiring and selling all of his resources. I looked inside and I couldn't believe what I saw. I was only the first day, and already single lots have gotten upwards of 10 million credits! So now, seeing the sheer amount of cash that is involved with resources, I have decided I would like to try my hand at mining. I was wondering if anyone had any tips, anything I should look out for, a certain type of resource that is most needed, a website that shows me the location of resources at any given time, I think there's on but I don't remember it... Thank you in advance for your help.

Finding the best spots: Novice artisan, surveying I-IV

To become a millionaire, you need to be able to move large quanties of resources

Consider this:

Imagine you have 8 medium harvesters with BER 10 at a 80% spot of a resource.

During one week of collecting resources, you have collected 645120 units.

You can rarely get rid of this much of one particular resource to one customer alone, so, the easiest way to unload your resources, is to enter an agreement with a resource merchant. The price you can get will vary, but often the price from supplier to merchant is around 1.5-3 cpu (at least in my galaxy). Itmay depend on the resource type and quality, or you can justagreeon a flat rate that suits youboth.Lets say you agree on selling your resources to the merchant for 2cpu.

This means that you have a total saleof 1.2 millions that week.

Your cost of operation for 8 harvesters will be energy and maintenance.

If we say that you purchase power for 1.5 cpu, the total cost of operating the fleet for one week will be:

Maintenance: 1440*7*8=80k credits

Power: 1200*7*8*1.5=100k

Total costs: 180k

Net result: About 1 million

Even with selling at 2cpu, it is possible to become a millionaire in a couple of weeks by selling resources, if you have some rich, steady customers.

Good luck!

Pick a niche and learn everything you can about that niche. The smaller the niche, the less work the mining operation will be.

Possible niches include:

  • Single profession resources (doctor, chef, weaponsmith)

  • Single harvester type (gas, flora, or chemical)

  • Narrow resource category (ore, steel, or fiberplast)

  • Single resource type that has consistent demand (Lokian wild wheat, tatooinian fiberplast)

  • Power

I started a month ago and was attracted to mining like yourself. One thing i have discovered though is that the auctions can be deceptive. Those are mostly top-notch minerals that haven't been available in a very long time. I've found that, even doing very good homework at swgcraft.com to find the best material, the most you're going to get is 4cpu, but more realistically 3cpu on currently available material. Even then, your going to "miss" what people actually want sometimes and have to dump stuff at 1 cpu. It's also a very labor intensive process.

My recommendation: Mine ore. Sells fast for 2-3 cpu and much less trouble trying to find out what people want. After I switched toore I even started getting mail for more. It's deceptive, cause you are'nt going to find concentrations of greater than 60% or so, but the steady customer supply is more important if you are relying on the bazaar for sales.

Sell fast. Grow fast. I'm trying to play 8 servers (get the most from my money heh) and have a full fleet of BER10's on 4, and am doing well enough on the others, and am stockpiling resources for when my vendor makes the map. Couldn't have done it without switching to ore though IMO.

Thanks for the tips guys. Ore seems to be like the lazy miner's resource, heh. I guess I will try my hand at mining that stuff.

Vieki,

I would suggest mining metals not ore:

1. Metals will approach 80-90% concentrations, ore rarely exceeds 60-65%.

2. Metal is used by many professions to grind, ore is only used by architects in quantity.

3. Architects use so much ore, they are rarely willing to pay a high price for it.

4. If you find a good metal with great stats you can auction it to weaponsmiths, DEs, and in the future shipwrights for higher prices. (On occasion there will be a good ore that armorsmiths need that will fetch high prices).

I am also on Intrepid. I do a lot of resource reselling. I buy at 1.5cpu and resell at 2 cpu. If you ever need cash let me know. My objective is high volume, I don't care about stats. You should be able to harvest minerals for under 1 cpu, and as low as .4cpu. So 1.5 cpu still gives you some profit.

Also, if you need help getting started, I am willing to give you harvestors, and have you give me resources in return. For example, for a heavy harvestor I would ask for 100k of resources, that would take you 7-10 days to mine. I am willing to spread the payment over a 4 week period so that you can still generate cash flow.

Sounds like a great idea Goliath. I will contact you in game when I get the chance. Thanks for the opportunity.
