Thread: An interesting story about fireworks

I know everybody hates the AFK ad spammers that sit outside of starports shouting their shop's waypoint, I hate them too, so I figured that if I was going to become one of them, I better darn well do something interesting and original toexcuse it. I got the great idea on the 4th of july to periodically set off fireworks just before shouting my add, kind of like those big spotlights car lots sometimes use. I spent 4 hours on Sunday setting up the macro and preparing the fireworks show packages, and after all that work, I discovered that my efforts were fruitless because of one bug.

Here's the bug, plus a couple others I discovered.

Fireworks Show Packages do not work from the hotkey toolbar. You have to activate them from your inventory either by double clicking or using the radial menu.

When experimenting on fireworks, the only experimentation option is "effectiveness," even though this affects charges. Also the number of charges you'vesuccessfully experimented is never displayed in the item's description.

You can load fireworks charges from a factory crate into a fireworks show package, but when you've loaded the number of charges on a single firework into packages, it creates a 0 charge "null" firework inside the crate that prevents you from accessing the rest of the fireworks in the crate in this manner. If you remove items from the crate until you've reached the last item, it will produce a 0 charge firework item.

not exactly bugs, but relevant:

There needs to be an easier way to mass-load firework charges into fireworks show packages for sale on vendors. (In my early artisan grinding days, I used to like to pump out lots of fireworks and then put them together in packages with titles likeImperial Candle and Deathstar Supernova to sell on the bazaar. Sold pretty well, actually).

What the heck happened to fireworks types 6-9 and 12-17?

It would be nice to get a color option for fireworks. That way we could put together color themed or multi-color fireworks displays.

I love the fact that there are fireworks in this game. It's one of the things I always point out when trying to describe all the wonderful parts of the game (and gloss over all the terrible parts that are getting fixed. Slowly). It just amazes me how much littlestuff like this there is to appreciate in this game if you just take the time stop to smell the virtual flowers.

Consider offering this as one of our top five issues.

Good writeup!

heh I also made some firework packages (100 of them, filled), and it took me the best part of 6 hours just to put the fireworks in the packages.

I did encounter the 0 fireworks bit, after which, I started pulling fireworks out of the crate before loading them in.

I've wanted colours in the fireworks before as a colour option, as we could make awesome looking displays with them.

A simple drag and drop interface would be better for the loading into packages

however, I WAS able to fire packages straight from hte toolbar. There have been times when I couldn't launch them at all, and had to relog.. but then they did work.

You can fire them from the toolbar.

Loading the packages is a pain and the #1 golden rule of never adding 2 consecutive identical fireworks really is annoying.

I used to run a fireworks shop but closed it down because of the buggy nature of fireworks.

Kneeling naked with only 1 package in inventory seems the most reliable way to shoot them off. No kidding, it works 85% for me.

Addendum: I have found that most faulty packages are the result of loading 2 consecutive types of fireworks. I.E. Loading a type 1, type 2, type 3, type 3, type 4.

I've sometimes been unable to launch my show packages from the inventory and had to use the hotkey toolbar. Which also doesn't always work. >_< I find that VERY rapidly hitting the key for the show package will set it off if it is being stubborn.

I too have been thinking what happened to the other fireworks (e.g type 17) I mean, fireworks are great (work 99% for me on infinity (euro) without doing anything speacial) but they types we have is not enough... with so many other stuff in this game... i don't see what they can't really have 18 or even more types of firework (maybe drop loot schemactics) and the colour option would be great!!!so that there can be real themed firework shows (I put on firework shows all the time in mos eisley), also I know there are other guys like me out there, that would like to make a name for putting on good shows... it would allow us alot more options and keep us all different from each other.

ALSO am I the only one that thinks that the show packages should be programable?? I mean launching fireworks one second apart everytime just don't cut it.

I've had a similar problem with fireworks packages and found that if they wou'nt launch, if I launch a single firework first the package will then work. this is an answer I got after several CSR tickets.

We recently had a fireworks show for the SWG anniversary and with ten friends we launched something like 15000 shots, through an entire night cycle. One of my workers complained about all the double clicking and wanted show packages. I handed them an empty show and told them to set it up. Didn't take long to discover why I didn't have 15k rounds set up in shows! Setting up show packages is tedious in the extreme!
