I have a big problem with this. The whole reason I decided to be an Artisan was so I could make the Best weapons. Now I hear that the best weapons are once that are sliced. I dont want to work my way up to smuggler threw brawler. Its a waste of Points for me.

Tell me this is not true and that Artisans can Slice weapons also.

Another question I have is can you give up skills you have learned. I thought I read some where that you can. Now I am hearing you can't. At least I think I read it in the manual that you cannot.

Sorry I am such a newbie. Just trying to find some answers.

If this is the case for smugglers I'll just by my weapons and Slice them myself. Hmmm

First you can surrender any skill you like. Click on a skill you know in your skill screen and select "Surrender Skill".

Second, sorry artisans can't slice. That said, so what? Smugglers don't MAKE weapons, they enhance them. A smuggler can't do his thing without someone making a good weapon first. There's nothing to stop a player from buying a good weapon from you THEN taking it to a smuggler, in fact this is almost always what happens.

A few smiths have deals with smugglers who slice their stock. Most don't. There's no reason to pick up smuggling if you want to make guns, you don't have to. Also there are disadvantages to slicing anyway, and you can only slice once, so it's a good idea to tell your customer a weapon is sliced anyway.

Nobodies going to decide whether or not to buy from you based on whether or not your guns are sliced. If you have good guns, they'll buy from you then slice. Don't worry about it.

Rereading your post it looks like you might be taking up artisan just so you can make weapons for yourself.

If this is the case you'll give that up real fast.

The amount of work you have to do to make good weapons is NOT worth the effort if you're making them just for yourself. People who are weaponsmiths do it because they like making and selling weapons. No one, and I mean no one, is a weaponsmith so they don't have to buy weapons.

The amount of work to get to master weaponsmith, especially since they changed factory XP is phenomenal. Definately MUCH easier to just buy one.

One last point...

It's not worth your time to be a smuggler just to slice your own weapons either.

Find a smuggler and have him do it for you.

5 minutes and 2,000 cr vs. hours and hours of XP gaining. No contest.

If you just want good weapons, buy a good weapon and then pay a smuggler to slice it. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE.
