I'm just a newb myself also, but here goes...
1) From what i've read this is *mostly* random. What 'mostly' random is escapes me at the moment though. Still reading on this one.
2) In order to get the experimentation option, you have to be using your specific crafting tool AND be standing near someone's crafting station. If you arn't near either a public or private crafting station then you won't get to do all the adjustments and such.
Hope that helps some...

thanx for the reply, random i can deal with, i expected that.
what gets me is i have crafted pups with my own tool (general tool) near a crafting station, and i dont get the option to experiment.
do i need to use a different tool? and yes, i am master artisan

I don't think you can experiment with a general tool, you need a weapon droid tool (the blue one).
Quality of resources effects the percentage obviously, the properties of the pup seem random but I don't think they are completely, there seems to be a pattern to it, but I haven't been able to put my finger on it yet
hope that helps

Sorry I haven't got the link, but, there was a forum message (think in Artisan) about which powerups offer which bonuses, the one I remember is that the coupler can be experimented to offer better damage, think muzzle does speed. If you can;t find it, there are several guides on the web (google search for swg weapon powerups usually works for me)
Basically, get a Weapon, Droid crafting kit, stand near a public (or get a private) crafting station, use the best quality resources you can, if you are Master Artisan anything over 990 in the primary stats will do. Otherwise make sure it is at leats in the 900's.
Preferably be a human (get an extra +15 to experimentation automatically) otherwise see if you can get skill tapes to add 10 - 20 experimentation bonus, which will add 1 - 2 points to your skill.
Then, when experimenting, do it one point at a time. No idea why, but this offers the best chance (IMHO) to get multiple bonuses. I have seen powerups with 4 bonuses, and heard about powerups with 5 bonuses. Personally I was over the moon when I finally got one that did 4, and made a 1000 of them. Of course, found out that they weren't much cop and sold them all through the bazaar (eventually) for 500 each.

i guess this is a 2 part question.
1. as far as powerups go, do i just keep making them untill i get the mods i want?
2. once i find one i like, how do i have the option to create a factory schematic? i dont always get the experimentation option.
basically someone give me a laymans walkthru of how they create pups.. leave no detail out if possible, include the type of tool, whether its near a crafting station, etc.
all info is appreciated
