hey all,

the items in my input hopper do NOT count toward the items in my house, apparently this is wrong. AmI in danger of losing all my best resources in a random update?

They shouldn't count towards your item limit, and you won't lose the resources. The factory isn't connected to your house in any way. In fact, my first factory was up and running for a month or so before I even had a house.

That being said, some people consider it a bit shady to use factory hoppers as additional storage, but there's nothing in the game preventing it.

My mistake, I always forget about those.

Station input hoppers have always been a bit problematic, I think they still have the problem where they don't recognize crates of components. And yes, resource stacks have been reported to disappear from the station. I did some poking around in old threads, and there was a bug fix in the september patch where the the incorrect house item count was supposed to be fixed, but if you're seeing it...

I'd say that the risks are a bit too high to keep stuff in the input hopper of a station. I just keep a few backpacks next to mine with my resources, and swap things in and out as I need them. If you're curious, you might try putting a couple low-quantity, low-quality stacks in there and watch what happens to them.

To follow up on sciguyCo's remarks,

I was told by the devs at one point that the contents of the input hoppers were not tracked properly in the house's inventory. As a result, people can and have lost items left in the input hopper of the station.

My advice? Don't use them for storage.
