Headed toward Master Artisan / Master Merchant with my alt and I want to maximize what I am able to do as an Artisan in the way of producing the best possible items. Are there skill tapes available for artisans (experiment, assembly, etc.) like there are for the elite profesions? What types are available and do they work for both crafting lines (engineering & domestic)? Any help is appreciated!

There are skill tapes for Artisan Experimentation and Artisan Assembly, and there is the standard +25 cap on the skill tapes, meaning that if you collect any more than +25 in either of them, there is no further increase in your abilities. The skill tapes will work on all Artisan-produced items, and also some items that you can make in the "elite" professions. For example, when I make Crafting Stations at Novice Architect, they are experimented on using Artisan Experimentation.
As a human MA, you will cap at +140 Artisan Experimentation, which will give you 14 experiment points. As a non-human, you will cap at +125 Artisan Experimentation, which will give you 12 experiment points. Human's get a +15 to Artisan Experimentation as a species bonus, so the cap without skill tapes is +115. Non-humans will cap at +100, and then you reach the higher numbers (+140 human, +125 non-human)by adding skill tapes.
A nice side benefit, Artisan Experimentation tapes are generally much cheaper than the elite profession experimentation tapes, because they aren't as valuable. Most of the items that an artisan will make can be experimented on to the max using only the 10 points of experimentation... but there are some items where it comes in handy to have a few extra experimentation points to play with.
I hope that this helps, if you need me to clarify any of it, just ask.

Well, when I said that the Artisan Tapes are 'cheap', I mean in comparison to the elite tapes. For example on my server, I paid 900k for a set of a +8 and a +2 tape. While it's not cheap, it's better than trying to buy a +10 food experiment tape, or +10 armor experimentation tape, these will cost several million dollars, usually at least $1 million for each point of experimentation. So the Artisan Tapesare relatively cheap in comparison.

I would happily pay 3 mill for a +20 tape.. talk about convenient. you get your 2 additional points in one article of clothing.

Howdy Friends,
Could someone please explain what skill tapes are, how they are used and where you can aquire them (lootable item?). Sorry forsounding noobish, I've been playing for about 5 months, and have seen skill tapes mentioned in other's conversation, but was not sure what they were.
Thank you for your help.
