1. Eclipse is the best server

2. Well, I didn't do much of surveying to be honest, but I did manage to master the tree overnight. Depends how you want to approach it. I did it with a macro because I didn't want to stare at my computer while i sampled all over the place. However, playing a profession you enjoy should be a deterrant for macros like these and I'd recommend just find some high concentration of a resource and sample the hell out of it.

3. Not that I know of. No surveying mod anyway.

4. Buy a harvester at skill box 1 if you want. The whole point behind these is so you can mine a resource A LOT faster while you're not at the computer. If there's a resource you want a lot of, that's the time to buy the harvester. Then you go find a high concentration, set up the harvester, and let it run for the week. Droids, i don't know. I never had the oppurtunity to use them. I imagine probably not until after you finished the tree.

5. Lots of professions use similar materials. Metals, chemicals, and all that are used by everyone. Get an idea of what products lots of armorsmiths, weaponsmiths, architects, etc... use and mine that stuff. I know when i was working on weaponsmith to grind it I need a lot of Hydron-3, Skevon gas, and Thoranium steel. These were pretty hard to find, so if you can learn what resources are rare and stuff, mine those and sell em for more.

6. Yes. To skill up in, no. To actually perform its functions, yes. Its not really a profession as much as it is a side of the artisan profession. I'd pick up some merchant skills to. Merchant 3000 will get you 3 merchants with the upcoming changes and the ability to post your shop on the planetary map.

7. Charge by the unit. 3cpu (credits per unit) is what i see a lot of people sell the generic stuff for. Some of the high quality and rare stuff goes for significantly more. For example, if you have 1000 units of copper, 3 cpu would be 3000 credits. Sell in bulk if you can, but also vary the sizes. My favorite resource shop i've seen had 3 vendors. 1 for small, medium, and large sizesof stacks.

8. I'm not really a surveyer anymore, but I'll be glad to offer any assistance. I play as Frylok on the Eclipse server.

Have fun. Also, pick up exploration 1 AT LEAST because otherwise its murder running around.

There is some money to be made by doing surveying for people who don't have those skills. I charge from 75k to 150k for one spot. But I guarantee my customers will be able to place their harvesters there (find out beforehand how many they have). It can sometimes take 3 to 4 hours to find a spot, depending on the resource and the planet. It means that you need to be familiar with the landscape of all of the planets, the most likely places to be able to put harvesters on (because you can't put harvesters on mountains, so don't even both surveying there). You will need to take a spare harvester, and have a spare lot, so that you can "measure" the area to make sure their harvesters will fit there. It also helps to have the survey droids, so you can check to see if the resource they want is on any other planet (of course, this doesn't help with fiberplast, organics). Make sure you get some scouting experience, so you have burstrun and terrain negotiation. You won't be out there to kill critters, but to avoid them. Get some sort of combat skill, so that you can clear out an area you want to put harvesters on. If there are any warrens or dens, they will prevent you from setting a harvester out. A vehicle is a necessity for this job. Can get by with a mount, but there have been bugs in the past between using a mount and servicing harvesters. If you are setting out your own harvesters, you will probably do better by finding one resource with good stats, and putting all harvesters on that until it de-spawns. Don't sell all of it at once, but put some in reserve until there isn't any good spawns of that resource, and then you can charge a little more for it.

Don't let the negative AFKophobes get you down. Play the game however you want.

Is the beta testing almost over for this game?

This is what I did as far as surveying went... Found a high percentage spot next to an NPC trainer (didn't matter what is was), migrated my quickness to 1000, sampled unbuffed all the way through, only stopping to get trained, and ususlly was done still kneeling.... All this while I ground out the rest of artisan and seom af architect
