Thread: A quick building strategy

I don't know if anybody else has thought to try this but I've been rolling with 2 crafting devices. 2 seems to be the best number because when you're done configuring the second item the first one is done and you can flip back over to that one and start configuring another item and then when you're done with that, the other one is finished. I found it to be a great way to optimize my time and get good crafting XP while harvesting ore and fiberplast.

Depends on the building time of the items you're making, there's a few items that take long enough to complete that you might want 3 if you're attempting to mass-produce items (Bone armor comes to mind) But 2 should do pretty good for most items.

I was using three the other night, and that seemed to work the best for me...of course I was mass producing bne armor helms...but thats another story

That's not a bug, it won't be "fixed".

Yeah, I've been doing the same thing too to cut down on downtime and I don't see it as a bug. There's no reason you could only use one crafting device at a time.

I have a question though, does everyone destroy and rebuild their crafting devices once they get enough xp to get to the next engineering level? It seems like the smart thing to do since you'll have a better success rate and more experimental points to make better crafting devices.

Yeah I just figured that part out last night so I destroyed all my surveyors and made new ones. I was making muzzles with my devices because those are complexity 14 which I am assuming means they give the most XP when I make them. Is this correct? Or does the complexity have nothing to do with the amount of XP you get?

That's the conclusion I drew too. At first I didn't like it but the more I thought about it the more it made sense and is very well done in fact. It would get tiring fast to be ruled by the machines. I already grow tired of having to babysit a couple of harvesters. If factories became the sole source of items, which is what would happen if they were the most effective, then this would become a very dull game indeed. Unrealist, yes. But then again here I am pretending to be a reptile in another galaxy long ago who can make a blaster rifle out of few nuggets of coal and some kerosene so show me the realism.

Actually, I'm leaning towards this being a bit of a balancing issue. If people could mass produce items on their own, what would factories be useful for.

I think the main reason people are thinking sampling and mass crafting is an exploit because it is faster than harvesters and factories is a lack of understanding of the game. In real life one person would be able to make lets say 10 guns in a day and a factory would make 1000 in the same time. If this was the same in SWG one person could supply the entire Galactic army with wepons using a couple factories. Yes sampling and crafting is faster than the machines. Then people ask why have the machines? Well I have 10 harvesters running and overnight I can get over 10k in resouces while I went and visted another planet, explored my city, hung out in the cantina. The purpose of the machines is to free you to do other things and not to be super efficient and flood the market with goods. If you want to mass craft items and be rich you will have to spend a lot of time and work to do so. The machines are a cool way of getting the job done slowly and giving you a chance to have fun and do other things. Hope this helps guys.
