hey do we have to become an engineering IV to be able to become commando, cuz it doesnt seem like it. just wondering/

Here's a thread that will answer most of your questions about artisan.

The short answer is that you need to craft artisan stuff (might start crafting combat knives to get started- they only take a little metal to make). So get or make a Weapon/Droid/General Item crafting tool, some metal, and have at it.
