Combat is kinda getting old, and while I still want to saty in the game I coul sacrifice some things to do artisan.

I just never have any money, and thought thsi might be a good way to make some. How is the credits for a master artisan?

How difficult is it to do?

IS it fun and worth it?

I wish SOE would just give a second slot without the 15 weeks I have left till jedi (which I dont really want, just want the slot)

but since they wont might have to switch. Give me some advice!

Well, it's hard to advise you on this. I think crafting and running a business is fun. It's what I've done since I bought the game.

Kind of all depends on what is fun for you. Basic Artisan work isn't very hard, just take your time and enjoy the journey. You can make a decent profit on Artisan schematics alone, without the sometimes painful and overwhelming resource management game of many of the elite Artisan profs.

Artisan foods, basic items, crafting tools and supplies, power ups, and vehicles are steady sellers. No, you won't make millions in a week, but it keeps me in kibble.

*shrug* I'm biased, of course.

Enjoy,
Guru

Crafting is fun, but it requires more patience and overall a different mindset than combat professions. It will seem like a wholly different game to you. You might try creating a character on another server and doing some surveying and crafting to see if you like it, but that will still just be a taste of what you can enjoy in the game as a crafter.

Master Artisan is fun and you can make some money but adding an elite crafting profession makes it better (being a master brawler is nice but being a TKM makes it better). You will not have instant credits setting up a shop getting it on world map and having customers show up regularly takes time, weeks to months.

If all you want is some fast cash level pilot to master and sell the loot you get, or use the cash to invest in bldgs, vendors and harvesters for a crafting life.

Or you can be dumb like me and have 2 accounts 1 for crafting and 1 for combat.

I am a long time the game and Jedi is pretty unreachable for me unless I am willing to give up my crafting template. Don’t get me wrong, I do like the interactivity the CU brought to fighting but, it has pretty much made it impossible for crafters to get around let alone work toward Jedi. Before the CU as a crafter I could get a buff and at some level participate in fighting, especially in a group where I had the advantages of numbers. Now I can hardly get to my factories without getting incaped. Then there's matter of force points. With the current exp trade values I have to craft tons! literally tons! of goods just to get a few points. Not only large numbers, but this all has to be done by hand to get XP. Is there currently any discussion about changing the values to help crafters make it to the same force point level of fighters? Also is there any discussion about giving crafters a way to get close to par on fighting ability without abandoning the crafting that we love?

This brings me to another point. Market flooding. Due to hedge numbers of products being crafted for XP to trade in the market is flooded with products, and the products are being used less and less with every patch. This about how many resources where taken out of the market before CU for healing alone. There were stim packs and buffs consuming hedge amounts of animal products. Now there are twice as many fighters gathering at the same time not using and of what they gather. This hurts BE's Doc's and Chef's. I don’t craft in these areas nor would I want too with the current levels of flooding, it would be impossible to turn a profit. Look at the current amounts of food, hides, and meats on the Bazaar alone. The bottom has fallen out of the market completely.

Now the only big consumables in the game are swoops, and armor. Weapons are looted left and right, ships never destroy, furniture lasts forever, building too, and with free heals and buffs ppl die less which equals less decay of clothes, armor, and weapons. Furthermore what is the point of droid engineer? Its not that I hate crafting, quite the opposite. The problem is the current state, and my not knowing what is being done to address these issues. There are still tons of useless items in crafting trees. Many of us already got burned on the "enhancer" upgrade (lol). Is there discussion of focusing some effort on fixing the game for the other third of us that are crafters?

In current state the world is bleak for crafters. I need force points, so I craft (by hand). Now I have a ton of goods, so I sell. Everyone else is doing the same, so much competition, and no sweat. Except for every good I create I am competing against the last good I and everyone else created because nothing ever destroys or leaves the game. Prices inflate to compensate and my stock room fills. Well that’s it we are here. My stock room is overflowing where I spend most of my time restocking and stuffing stuff in pigeon holes. I browse the bazaar trying to find a way to corner the swoop market to turn a profit. I might get lucky and find a newb who has undervalued his resources, or perhaps a crafter who has given up and is having a going out of business sale. With all this who has time to survey for Jedi XP?

I never play My jedi only my Bh for combat But have found that I spend alot more time Crafting then anything I have played since the start and was getting burned on combat also. As posted above an elite crafting class with artisan makes it wholy better. Artisans alone dont make alot of cash but are still enjoyable for pups and such.

I think it is a lot of fun to craft a bunch of fireworks and put on a show. I don't think many other people care when I do it but I get a kick out of it.

Back in the days i were a Chef for a while, i had great fun, business was blooming, made millions.

And i dident even harv my own resources. and i were not even a master chef, (missed one box).

Just yesterday i almost bought a 12 pt chef suit planning to try it out again , but i got second thoughts as i dont got too much gametime. And i also have a jedi to work on. Tho im still considering making my alt a crafter of somekind, we'll see.

But if you do wanna craft, i recommend the chef prof! its alot of fun, ppl allways use food & drinks of all kinds.

And there should be plenty of business for a chef.

It is the least played crafting profession according to the Astromech Stats.

I have played toons on both end of the spectrum. My advice is to create a artisan toon on another server 1st instead of just switching out of your hard earned combat class. Try it out on another server 1st and if you like it alot then switch your main toon out for it. If you dont like it then you still have your main toon still intact.
