I think it should be. I agree fully with them.

Well having merchants be the only ones who can sell things would certainly change the game a bit.

I'd be more in favor of changing the entire business line to mercahant xp so you don't have to craft at all, but that is a side issue.

Moving all vendors to merchnt would reduce the amount of shops people own. The question is, would this create a merchant class. Would people sell to merchants to get items on a vendor, or would they just hawk items by hand or just become merchants themselves using more skill ponits. I think most people don't like the idea of buying an inflated items just because the item can be bought off a vendor. Most will go right to the crafter if they can and save money. This really depends on many factors though.

Other than looks, vendors do all the same things. Perhaps a low end vendor should only be able to hold a very limited number of items where a high end vendor can hold a lot more. Maybe there should be price things. A low end vendor might have a 3000 cr price cap and a high end vendor much higher.

As it stands now, a merchant can have many vendors. If this isn't desireable, then maybe the entire class should be reworked if a person having one vendor destroys the enitre profession. Merchants should get a lot of useful things. Maybe a merchant can have reduced maintence on everything like houses and harvesters and vendors and maybe reduced travel costs.

I'm not against moving the vendors, but I"m not sure the reasoning is sound.

I don't think it would really make a big difference.

REALLY low level artisans who pick up business III aren't selling much, so no big loss.Everyone else will just pick up novice merchant. It's not much trouble and probably won't be even if they change to a GXP.

It'll change things for a week, then everyone will have novice merchant.

This is not a solution to the merchants problems.

If you care about this issue, you might want to head to the Merchant forum. There are folks lobbying to have Vendors removed from the Business line and replaced with Reduced Bazaar Fees (including the Merchant Correspondant). [Novice Merchant would then be attained with GC XP instead of Merchant XP.]

What you have to appreciate is that they dont want the artisans market (because there isnt one), but the ability to have a vendor in the artisan line has allowed Weaponsmiths, Armoursmiths, Architects, Droid Engineers, Tailors & Chefs to run shops and it is this that the Merchants want taken away.

Merchants are split over the issue, the crafter/merchants claim that spending the extra skills points to get novice Merchantisnt going to change the market structure in the way the Merchants are hoping (because its not alot of extra skill points), what the pure Merchants really want is to force crafters to take merchant skills to run a vendor

You only have to look at real life markets to see that its cheaper to cut out the middle man, and theres usually a way to do it, unfortunately in SWG because there were vendors before Merchants its going to be difficult (if not impossible) to reverse the trend where the customer expects/wants to deal directly with the manufacturer and not some middleman with a markup.

Dont get me wrong though, I also play the 'merchant' in SWG but it has nothing to do with getting merchant skills, its knowing a bargain when you see one and knowing how much you can get someone else to pay for it, and I dont think changing game mechanics will change players expectations in this regard (i.e. buying from the manufacturer)

I sell more on the global bazaar, offering items on other vendors, and just by receiving requests than I do with my own rusty vendor. I might like a reduced bazaar fee better.

Yes it is ture, I am pushing for changes in this area. The Artisan Correspondant also thinks something could be done in this area as well.

I would like to see, the vendor you get at III moved to IV, giving only "merchants" NPC vendors. Moveing the reduction in bazaar fees in the merchant lineto Bus III. And setting limits to the Bus IV vendor, a little better than the bazaar, but not the way it is now. I PERSONALY think that Novice Merchand should require GCExp, because as it stands many people are placeing a vendor in a locked house, and racking up Merchant Exps without any effort at all (you get exps based on time a vendor is active). Merchant is the only advanced class that does not use GCExp to get to Novice.

This is being kicked around. Some like it, some don't. For the most part, those that like it are ones that play merchants, those that do not are the droid engs, and tailors that want nothing to do with the merchant line but want to sell stuff while they are off line. All the opions are being laid on the table for the devs, they may do something, they may do nothing at all.

They are to busy nerfing all the PvP classes to worry about merchants. No one has ever been ganked by a merchant clubing them over the headwith a NPC Vendor.

On another note, I envite all of you over to the merchant board. Even if you are not planing on being a merchant. We have many talks about marketing, and supply lines.

Thank you all for your time (Now I will wait to see how long it takes a certain someone to post behind me)

I'd only accept a move like this if they remove or drastically lift the restrictions on the bazaar.

Perhaps raise the max price on the bazaar to 25k credits and 50-100 items ... then I could take loosing my jukebox in my shop.

But to be forced to sell through merchants otherwise is crazy. It would be the same logic as preventing artisans from sampling their own resources or running their own harvesters to make the mining profession viable. And we know how that argument won out
