Hey quick question.

I have 563 Survey experience but I do not know how I have gotten it. I was never an artisan nor have I ever seen a message saying "xx survey experience earned".

Only thing I could think of but never recieved experience for is my forage skill, that's about the closest thing to surveying I have done, well harvesting creatures but that is scouting experience.

Any clues would be nice.

If you have ever sampled a resources (other than hides, bones, or meat) you have probably recieved it that way. I don't believe you gain it for foraging but you might have.. if so then I know foraging doesn't give a message for it. Beyond that, it could simple be a bug.

None of the forages net you any experience whatsoever.
I would wager that this is most likely a bug.

Have you placed a harvester on one of your lots for someone? I remember hearing at one point that running harvesters slowly gives you survey xp.

Since foraging doesn't seem to give survey xp, and you say you've never sampled (the normal route to gain xp), if it's not that I'd have to say it's a bug.

I had the same thing when I was a newbie scout. No artisan skills whatsoever, no sampling, etc. For some reason, everytime I thought to check my XP, survey was up a little. I MIGHT have been running a personal harvester off and on but I don't think I was at that point. Also, the survey XP was coming in very regular amounts. Always in multiples of 10.

Since you mentioned forage, I'm guessing you're a scout. There's probably some kind of bug related to scout that gives survey XP. Maybe setting up a camp or maskscent or using a certain trap or some damned thing. As I no longer have the SPs to regain Artisan and my Survey XP is maxxed, I lack the ability to test it.

I have experienced exactly the same, i have a bounty hunter on tarquinas server and when working through the scout skill "survival" i experienced that if i foraged when in camp my ham went down ad the camp generated survival xp faster, (dont know if this is right but itlooked like it atthat time) and by foraging i got 1000 survey xp!!. i dont believe this is a bug because it is a kind of surveying only you dont use a surveying tool.

I just think the devs forgot to mention this in the manual and in addition there is other types of xp you don't get a message when gained.. take for an example crafting xp... im working a artisan atm. on the shadowfire server and ive been craftingmany survey tools and fire works to raise engineering/business/domestic arts skill tree's and while crafting you dont get any message on how much xp you gain by each success....
