I had the same initial thought and did the grind through Eng IV on bone armor (until the bone market dried up) and then on chem surveyors cause steel was coming cheap. But once I got there, I decided to finish off Master Artisan. Might as well grind on droid components like chips and stuff on my way to DE, at least so I'll have them available and can practice making nice ones.

yeah, thanks for all the help and recommendations. oh yeah, omdatha thanks for the advice but this won't be my first/main elite. I'm also becoming master scout, not sure where to go from there, and carbineer as well. Funny is taht both the elites i choose, carbineer and DE are totally broken, but i have faith in the devs......

Just made Novice DE the other night. The fast way is to make bone chest plate, but that is expensive. Short sleave shirts is a cheap way to grind but takes some time. However, you can go automatice and not worry about making plates and fiber panls. If you have Domestic 4 you can make travel packs and maybe make some cash too, but practice practice!

Actually, if you're 4000 away from Engineering 4, you still have a long way to go to DE. Novice Droid engineer can't be bought straight up like the novice starting professions, it'll take another 28000 crafting experience.

Honestly, let me save you the trouble. Don't take up DE right now, at least not as your main profession. I took it as my first elite profession and ended up dropping it in favor of architect and weaponsmith. The problem with DE is that most of the stuff you make is useless and very difficult to sell (I *still* have R5 droids with level 1 med modules for 500 credits, and nobody wants them.) In fact before I surrended my DE skills my I hadn't made a sale since they nerfed the pets-in-data-modules exploit (even my novice weaponsmith, making sub-par DH17s, DLT20s, DL44s and scout pistols, makes a couple sales a day minimum.)

The only really useful thing novice DEs make is the droid storage modules, which are needed to build the highest-quality crafting stations and repair tools. You get those as soon as you get Novice DE so there isn't need to go any higher in the skill tree.

If you are still set on becoming a DE though you really should get master artisan first, as some of those modules are needed for droids and even for some architect schematics. You can probably make decent money off of mass producing Electronics GP modules (*torches* use them, for some strange reason...I make them by the crate for making torches.)

Wind Generators, you can use them to get to Novice DE, too.
