Thread: Worthwileness of Bone Armor and working towards Armorsmithing (txt)

I'm skilling up an Armorsmith right now, and I'm now at Engineering IV, working for enough crafting XP to get Novice Armorsmith. So what do you think I'm building? HARVESTERS of course, because NOBODY buys my Bone Armor.

Wondering why (because I take care to make it as good of quality as my little Engineering-bum can make it) I examined the properties of the armor and found that it is VULNERABLE to Kinetic damage. It instead provides protection against Blast and Energy.

That confused me. Being the most easily made armor, I would assume it to be the cheapest, and therefore the noobest. If those assumptions are incorrect, so be it. But I'll continue on assuming those assumptions to be correct.

Because Bone Armor is "noob armor" it should offer benefit to noobs. And what are noobs typically fighting? Well, to the best of my experience, it ain't a whole lot of blaster-toting Womp Rats, or energy-ray-firing Durnis. The low-level mission monsters (excluding humanoid gang members) are doing Kinetic damage. Is there any way Bone Armor could be modified to even provide just a MODICUM of Kinetic resistance? It seems like this would make purchasing Bone armor a lot more of a desirable thing for noobs, and therefore making it easier for aspiring Armorsmiths to actually skill up to their profession by making: <gasp!> armor!

There's a few special drops that can add kinetic to bone.. bad news is, most of the ones people give me have come from Dantooine.

But bone does actual serve a purpose.. learn your armor, and educate your buyers. Armor is actualy quite complicated in this game, there's no one armor that does it all...

I should clarify to say: I never intended to say that Bone was worthless, or had no purpose. It certainly does. It's just, being that it's the most quickly (skill-requirements wise) created armor, it would seem that it would be more oriented towards newbies.

Perhaps THAT is where I'm wrong. And that there are Master [Whatevers] running around wearing Bone Armor for its blast and energy protection (somehow I doubt this, but still.)

My point was to say: if it IS for newbies (a big assumption) it would seem that newbies would be better suited with Kinetic resistance built-in NATURALLY. (Not with hard-to-obtain power-ups or segments.) The gangs point was well-taken, but even still 50% of those attack you with melee weapons or unarmed.

First off, Bone Armor is extremely useful in that it provides blast protection. Very useful for the gang mobs, as well as faction missions for imp and rebel. It is a specialized armor, for a particular use.

Secondly, it has very low HAM costs relative to other armors, so it is friendly in this way.

Voritor lizard hide segments (from Dantooine) can be used in place of bone-armor segments, and provide kinetic resistance. I recently crafted a full suit, using voritor scales, and all pieces have a 6% kinetic protection from the scales, in addition to the standard blast protection.

As an aside, grinding can be a tedious process. I have found that it seems to go by much more quickly if you are crafting with a purpose--such as making full suits of bone armor. Add up all those panels, segments, and then the 9 pieces, and you have a variety of items to make, and you can sell full suits of bone to people.

Bone armor is very good for Kamikaze PvP action. It is very good for faction point destroy missions that you're constantly under fire from energy weapons.

I have a spare set of 30-some % bone armor around for when I grind FP missions.

Also if you're going up against a BH with eyeshot and you can't afford a 40% chitin or 55% padded/composite helm then you should get a 33% bone helm. Their scout blaster eyeshot spam won't hurt nearly as much.

The only problem with bone is the same with most armors, it takes considerable effort to harvest the hide & bone you need for a really good set of armor.
