Thread: How do you afford to run harvesters?
Player Hall dues: 2,500
Small house: 2,500
My harvesters:
Solar @ 1,200 per day to run (need to run 3 days to power my 2 harvesters for a week)
Personal harvesters at about 3,000 per week to run X 2 harvesters (? not sure about that one)
Based on that, my weekly expense is 12,200 per week.
I'm a fairly advanced marksman/brawler with decent scouting skills, but don't have a ton of time to play each week. I generally game for 10 hours a week and so far have been doing destroy missions which pay about 800 credits per mission, and I can do about 4 per night (which would give me 10,000 per week - not enough to meet my expenses!).
So far I have been grind-crafting, and not selling anything I make since it goes into our player-association.
Soo.... any ideas on how I can make more money? Would survey missions be faster? Any particular areas I should head to make more money?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Survey missions will be faster for you and can also make you more money. I can grab survey missions up to $1,800 per resource. Even getting 2 missions of $1,500 ea generates $3,000 per, probably more than other missions currently.
Whatever your home town is, find an Artisan mission terminal you will work with. Set a waypoint on it. Now head out of town in a direation, lets say North. When you get over the 1,024 m mark, the distance you need to be from the terminal for the mission to "kick in", then start surveying. I go about 1,100 meters just to play it safe. Now, keeping the waypoint on the Artisan terminal active, start making a circle of the town at 1,100 meters.....surveying every so many meters (depending on your survey skill) and write down any minerals or chem, etc.. that is over 60%. Also set a waypoint. Somewhere along there you will find one or two really good resource spots in the 65-70% range.
Go back to the terminal. Pull missions for the highest resource you just found on your around the city trip. Pull two of the same mission and head back to the high resource spot, keeping that waypoint activated. Survey and collect your money, head back to the terminal! Repeat.
The two main time consuming things here are 1) the 2,000 m you will be running each time to do a mission and get a mission. If you have some Scout skills and can move faster, handle terrain better, that helps. Also, don't forget burst run. On each trip make sure you use it up to speed up travel time. 2) actually getting the missions on the terminal. Sometimes it takes a bit to cycle through and find the missions you need. Be patient. Also having good skill in a weapon class helps make these missions higher paying ($1,800 is my current high point).
In the course of 1 or 2 hours you should pay for all your harvesting needs for the week, and probably have extra cash left over. Your hard work of finding the resource up front will last about a week before a resource shift happens....then you need to do that again. Hint...look for large concentrations of harvestors...good chance there is some high concentration ofa resource there and you can take advantage of that for missions.
Good luck. xDiggerx, Master Artisan
I'm assuming you're talking medium harvesters here.\
Get 2 more harvesters. The Solar should put out enough energy to power 4 mediums, depending on the density where you have them planted.
Sell half the materials you pull up (ore & metals sell the best) on the bazaar, in stacks of about 1100 to 1200 for 3000 credits.
That should net you at least 6k a day while sitting on your keester doing zip.
Adjust as necessary. :-)

That's an interesting approach. (It's not mine, but it's interesting.
)
One note, though: I wouldn't use /burstrun to cut down on travel time. I don't know about you, but there are just too many red dots that pop up right in front of me (and then want to chase me) when I'm travelingto not have /burstrun available when I really need it.
YMMV, of course.

Those things will eat your bank account alive.
You can several things:
Sell some of your raw resources to get some money to pay maintenance.
Run the harvestors until you get a good supply and then redeed them until you need more resources.
Run your harvesors until you get a good supply and then destroy them. This one is only recommended if you can make your own harvestor deeds.
Prostitute yourself to make enough money to pay your maintenance fees.
I do this but modify it slightly. I survey in my front yard by my house and find something on the list which is 60% or better. Then when I run back to town I take some flora to post on the bazaar (2cr/ or 2.5cr/). I get two survey missions for the same thing or things which I have on my list. Then I run back to my house and I get cash for the run and can do what I came to (maintenance run for the harvesters, experimenting, making meds or whatever) and I got paid for it. Thus every time I go between the town (Kor Vella) and my house I get 3k cred. It takes quite a few refreshes sometimes but it's keeping my harvesters running.
