Thread: LGO Rant (And we need a new correspondent)
With Jas finally giving up (who can blame her?), this probably won't go very far. But I gotta vent ![]()
I'm giving up on LGO's, except for what I need to build the occasional harvester. Low grade ores are just not worth the time and effort it requires to find a viable concentration (50%+). The dev's need to rethink this, and concentrate them like they do all the other resources.
I spent 5 hours on Tat last night trying to track down 50% or greater concentration of carbonate ore. On an average, you have to survey your way over 3 KM of terrain to find the "sweet spot" in a LGO spawn. And when you finally get there, it's usually not present in commercial concentrations. After 5 hours, the highest I saw was 34%.
It happens every time. I see architects constantly yelling for 10K+ carbonate ore, and I've gone looking a LOT. From now on, when I luck onto a decent concentration, I'm going to set every spare harvester I have on it, and then save it for my own personal use ![]()
Whew....done!
the problem may not be that architects are forced into being underpriced. the problem may instead be that other artisans are allowed to be WAY overpriced.
with my farm of medium and large harvesters, i can draw LGO from a 50% spot at about .57cr per unit. if you factor in travel and teardown costs, it goes up to about .75. i can make about 200k profit a week selling at 1.75, which is plenty low enough for architects to sell finished goods at 3 and clear a profit.
now let's compare that to, say, weaponsmiths. weaponsmiths regularly charge over 20x resources for their wares. why? well, because they can. and they can because it takes a relatively low amount of high density resources to make their wares, AND their wares are directly useful to most players.
what's my point?
my point is that the supply chain for architects still has profit margin in it and that, perhaps, the supply chain for other artisans has too much profit margin.
Anyway, I too have had 0 luck getting more than 50% concentratrion on LGO after the last shift. I didn't check EVERYWHERE, but I surveyed quite a bit around Coronet, Moenia and Theed. This is the first time I've had this problem with ore; usually I can get a good 70-80% spot. As it stands now I have three mediums on a 50% spot outside of Theed and I pull in enough daily to about build one big item (factory, or a chem or gas harvester) or several smaller items (mineral installations, solar generators, etc.). When I'm able to make heavies it'll be better of course.
Oh I'm on Ahazi btw. Forgot to mention that. Speaking of which if someone out there has some bulk LGO I'd love to buy some. Maybe 10k to start; more if it's cheaper than 3cpu.
Why would you sell your final combine for 1.7 a unit? lol
You must love making structure and wall mods.
I just mine and sell resources at 3 cr/unit. I'll do special orders for friends, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna sit and grind out 100 structure mods, to give someone a house for less than the value of the resources.

Proffit on a weaponsmith or armorsmith seeling at 20-60c per res is proportional to architects selling for 3-5c per.
The ONLY reason this is true is that per sale and per assembly architects make a much higher proffit. That means that per final assembly a master architect will make 100k-300k of pure proffit. A weaponsmith has to do several times as much manual work and more sales to make 100k-300k in proffit even with their high margins.
I have supported architects making 4c per res and higher and I've paid 400k for a PA hall when one could be had for 220k. So you could say that I'm a huge architect supporter, but the facts of proffit over time invalidate the argument that weapons, armor, and structures should all have the same proffit margins.
resource on some items tend to defy logic.
water vapor near rivers and lakes (lucky if it is over 45%)
solar rarely over 65% and often have large parts of the planet that appear to have no solar at all (why isnt it dark then)
LGO the mineral resource that is used the most has one of the lowest averages of any of the minerals. (why is it easier to find high grade ore ie. copper, aluminum, steel, etc)
At the same time you have resources like fungus that are 95% in the middle of the desert no shade or water nearby.
You have wood available at 97% and there isn't a tree within 1000 meters of the spot.
Milk **edit** that one is one hard to find resource
