Thread: Newbee!!!!
First of all, welcome to Star Wars Galaxies.
The first thing you need to do in order to make the long climb to weaponsmith is either purchase or harvest some minerals and start crafting things. I would recommend finding a good source of mineral and chemical (doesn't really matter for the lower grade schematics). Mineral and chemical resources are all that are needed for weapon powerups. Next you're going to need to grind through the Engineering tree in Artisan. That's a lot of weapon powerups.
If you're on the Chilastra server send me a /tell and I can probably help you out, show you some tricks of the trade.
OK, i started playing SWG to day and i went for the artisan..
But whatmust i do to be a weapon smith??????
You will need stacks of materials in order to make just about anything in game. To make a weapon powerup for example you will need 6 mineral and 4 chemical for every powerup you make.
So once you have enough of the materials you need for something you wish to make, open your general crafting too (GCT), select the item you wish to create, insert the appropriate materials and hit the next button. Follow the next few screens by hitting the next button (you can change the name if you like on one of the last windows). You will get a message saying "please wait while the tool creates a prototype" or something like that. Once the GCT is finished, it will place the prototype in your inventory (unless of course you had practice mode enabled). Wash, rinse, repeat.
Once you've found a good spot to dig for metals, you need a Personal Mineral Exctrator. You can usually find these on the Bazaar, or ask an Engineer (Artisan with Engineering IV)to make one for you.
This is a small mining machine that will tirelessly dig out minerals for you and store them in a hopper. It works even when you are offline, as long as it has enough Power, and Maintenance.
Power you can get either by buying some from the Bazaar, or by also buying and placing a Personal Wind Generator. This second method works out far cheaper. You'll need a Wind Current Survey Tool to help you find a good spot for this.
Maintenance is basically a cash pool that you need to keep topped up in order for the Harvesters to function. Although this does effectively mean you are buying your minerals from your Harvester, this is still FAR cheaper than buying materials from the Bazaar.
Once you've set the Harvester up, and stocked Power and Maintenance, go away and come back a day later and you should have 1000-5000 units of the chosen resource ready to craft away with. (Depends on the Harvester BER, and the % Concentration it is placed on).More harvesters means more resources, but also increases your maintenance and power costs, so start with just one or two until you can be sure of earning this cost back. You can place up to 10 of these Harvesters.
When shopping for Harvesters, pay close attention to the 'Base Extraction Rate' in the item details. The higher this is, the better, as a BER 4 harvester can mine four times as much as a BER 1 model, for the same maintenance and power cost.
BER 8 is very good for a Personal Wind Generator, and BER 4 is very good for the other types of Personal Harvester (Moisture, Flora, Mineral, Chemical, Gas). Make sure you have the right Harvester for the type of resource you need; there is one for each of the Survey Tools.
The 'Get Sample' option on the survey tool is only really practical for just that; to get the kinds of quantities needed for some serious crafting, you'll need to harvest or buy.
