I'm currently collecting all my resources to master Shipwright. So far I have my steel, aluminum, and iron. My problem is finding a high concentration of ore to pull over a million units. It seems like the entire planet is usually covered with 30-45% but theres simply never a high concentration spot to mine. I guess my question is....am I just having bad luck finding a spot, or is this the way it usually is? Are there any tips on finding a better spot? such as better planets to look for? Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is a noob question.

ore is hard to find a good concentration of. Ive had a 70% sitting under my static harvies for a couple days now, but that is rare.

If I find a 50% concentration of Ore, I'll plop all my harvesters on it. That's good.
The exception being Ferimonic Siliclastic Ore, which doesn't have a concentration cap. (I believe none of the JTL Resources have restrictions on their concentrations.)

Yeah, ore is a pain. Not only is a spot in the 60's like steel high 90's but it changes concentration percentages very slowly. 30% 300 yards later 31% 400 yards later 31 % it take forever to find the highest concentration for the stuff. The SW resources and the Hardened steel do not have the caps on % concentrations or stats. I have mine SW ore on a 98% concentration.

For grinding purposes, your best bet is to look for the JTLS ore (Fermionic Siliclastic Ore). It's far more easy to find a good spot 90%+, and the resource will be in shift from 15 to 20 days. There is always a spawn of this ore on one of the planets.
For "regular" (non-JTLS) ore, a spot between 50% and 60% is an awesome spot.

I found this out the hard way. Hunting ore is easily the most frustrating surveying due to the fact that it's always a "layer cake" concentration system. You could pick up a reading, track it 2500m, and find out it tops out at 49%.
I got lucky mining my ore, found a 71% spot...before anyone else...by the time I was done I had over 1.8 million of it, and there were dozens of heavies around mine sucking on lower concentrations...I'm just glad I had the foresight to power them for the long term in advance - since about three Kimos dropped down in the middle of my farm and didn't leave for about four days.
Ran dry on Steel (had enough to hit 4100 with a Musician buff), then scanned for a brand-new spawn of it, got lucky and dropped 12 BER13s on a 91-93% spot of *really* crappy steel (it helps having two characters). It's been up for 4 1/2 days and I've already gotten roughly 65000 per harvester.

Too bad you're not on Valcyn. I know a spot (and am mining it too) that's 65% and has good stats too. I wish I had more lot spaces though since I only have 2 heavies on that spot and this is a rare event for getting ore like that. Have you tried different planets? Sometimes one planet might have more stuff than another. So, give that a shot. Finding good spots can be a bit time consuming, but very worth while when you find lush areas.

. I didnt want to drop all those harv's on a spot without at least asking first. Thankyou to all who replied, I'm 1 step closer to mastering now
. Just inert petro, fiberplast, and 100k more of aluminum to master after this!
Congrats.
I've still got a little ways to go (4113). Currently I have all 16 lots (4 more are for buildings) tied up in keeping resources coming in for my crafter. I've been doing all right so far in keeping everything I need in constant supply.
But again, sorry that you're not on my server. I have quite a stash of what you need and they range from grinding quality to very nice quality stuff. Oh well. I'm sure you'll manage. Again, congrats. ![]()

And for the most part it doesn't spawn much aboveabout 50% so don't stress if you can't find a high % spawn for it.
