Well, it's changed a few times, so take this with a grain of salt.

Originally, you could make a factory schematic from a limited-use schematic. For early schems, this wasn't much of an improvement, since they required loot-only components. The crafter's apron was one example: you got a 3-use schem as the reward, and it required (I think) two identical "heavy duty leather" components, which could only be looted from NPCs. But if a tailor could get their hands on a stack of 6 identical heavy-duty leathers, they could make a factory schem (using up two of the leathers), then make a factory run of two aprons (consuming the other 4 leathers), using up only one use of the schematic.

Then limited use schems got added that didn't require loot components. I think the "Tatooine Banner" may have been one of the first items in this category. An architect who got the schem was able to make up to 1000 item factory runs. This was seen as kind of a "bad thing", since the whole point of a limited use schem is to keep the item rare while still having crafters in the loop. So the devs added a "no factory" flag on schems, so at the end of the crafting session, you didn't get the option to make a manufacturing schematic.

So it's possible that a limited use schematic could allow a factory run, but I don't know what the current policy is for them. And I'm not sure if the schematic itself indicates this fact, either on the schematic object, or in the draft schematic after you learn it. The only way I know of to check for sure is to craft the item next to a crafting station and see if you get only the "Create prototype" option, or if you also get the "Create manufacturing schematic" button.
