Thread: Surveying/Sampling question
I am a Scout currently, but I dabble in the arts. I find that surveying and sampling help me when out in the field. I do this when camping to gain more Survival xp. I thought that I would take up Surveying as a side job and was wondering if anyone had some thought on how to go about doing this. Can I just sample away or do I need to use a Harvester? I know that a Harvester will yield more product over time, but is the cost of operating it, especiallyby a non-PA person, easily overcome? What is a good baseline for quality of materials that I should look for? I ask these questions because I honestly don't have the patiencefor crafting itself. I can barely handle making tgraps and camps, but I do enjoy"hunting" for minerals.Pulling out my survey tool and seeing what is around is, oddly, enjoyable for me.
So, if anyone could give me any advise or direct me to a site for this sort of thing, I would greatly appreciate it.
Glad you're excited about surveying. Harvesters will not get you any survey experience--the only way to do that is to stick your shovel in the ground ![]()
Secondly, if you don't have the patience for crafting, then you definitely should NOT go into mining as profession, or even a hobby. Try it if you like, but it takes a LOT of patience, and a lot of cash reserves to weather the down turns and a missed gambit on a risky resource. There are guides on mining in the guide section of these boards, or do a search on my username
on how to get started.
If you like surveying and the exploration thing, my suggestion is to hook up with a miner on your server and offer your scouting services to locate rare resources.
I have a few scouts now that I work with. They run on different planets than I do and work as my eyes for various metals that I'm looking for. Also, if you're really hardcore about the scouting/surveying, then start recording resource spawn times. Watch the resources daily on your planet. When a new one pops, record the date for it. That way, when the rare metals pop up, you know exactly when they appeared and your Miner contact will absolutely love you for that information.
Just some thoughts...hope that helps.
