He he, Ok, you're getting a bit carried away there with your thoughts. .

I wanted this to be about crafting ships, but I know that people are very excited about the SE (me for one), but don't expect more than is possible. Remember how everyone imagined what they wanted to do, but were then bogged down by what they couldn't do?

Dude, don't you realize that long before they even hintedthat there would be shipbuilding, they had a pretty good idea how it was going to be implemented? Why not come up with something original to propose?

With the April Fools joke on stratics about the Space Expansion,I started thinking about it once again, and one and a halfthoughts sprung to mind. Ship building. Which profession should create ships or should there be a new profession? And if so, how would the end user customize their ship.

I thought about this, considering at first that it should be droid engineer, as they are lacking purpose. Then it struck me. Droid Engineers supply a certain component for a profession. I can't remember what, but I remember someone of the other profession asking for these parts. So, how about Master Artisans building ships, but even further, an "uber" Master. This would be a single branch going above Master Artisan thatwould deal with blueprints. As you can understand, this would be fairly easy to master (Artisan that is) and would mean any newbie could make ships in a week or two, depending on wether they have a guild to supply parts or not. The better ships would be higher up this new branch, but something low end like the T-65 or whatever it was called (the pre X-wing) would be on Master artisan, as the "n00b" ship.

But, you may ask, surely a new profession would make more sense and components and skills could be separated amongst this set of brances? Well, Yes and No. Yes, it is possible, but No, because I say so. Actually, I say No, because of the next part of my idea.

Rather than having the components besides the basic ship shell and hull, the rest would be made by other professions. At last, a chance for all Artisan professions to be combined in the economy and deliver something new.

A droid engineer could obviously supply an on board repair droid, but more so, a droid engineer has access to all sorts of wonderful technology. They would be crafting things like Hyper drives (which could then be sliced, thus involving another profession) and the main CPU.

A weaponsmith, would well, supply the turbo lasers and weaponry. The low end Weaponsmiths could make small turrets, while the Masters could use top end resources to make top of the line Ion Cannons.

An Armoursmith would be involved in crafting all sorts of armour for the ship, of course. As with weaponsmiths, the higher the skill level of the armoursmith, the better the armour on theship. This would ALSO mean that the sheild generator branch of the armoursmith tree could make sheilds for the ships.

Finally, the Architect. You may ask what the hell anarchitect would make? A small generic house to fit on the ship? No, they would supply the massive bulk of a ship. A smaller ship may only require a few of the Architect's components, but a large ship like the wings on an X-Wing, or the massive corvette's storage space.

Another idea I had (jeez, I don't shut up) is for them to be able to craft mining lasers, if mining were included in the Space Expansion. This would be placed in the mining installation branch of Architect.

To conclude, my solution isa way of giving extra meaning to all Artisan professions (including Artisan) and to create a real sense of an economy, where the situtation on professions will need to be managed so that there are enough Droid Engineers pumping out hyper drives... or Armoursmiths supplying enough and good enough armour.

Thank you for your time. This is in the Artisan boards as it makes sense to put it here rather than in any other profession board for obvious reasons.

I love that idea

But if something like this happens, and if armor can be crafted, I hope it's not like the armor players wear (where they are givin resists and such). I hope that all armor would really do for a ship is give it more hit points or something....

And I hope people will have the ability to walk around larget ships....a small star fighter would just have you sitting there in the same spot the whole time, but a larger ship should let you be able to walk into and out of the cockpit, anddifferent rooms (perhaps where different storage spaces, control devices, or gun turrets could go....oh, and I hope some larger ships can get mannable gun turrets ).

And I also wanna see ramps that open up under the larger ships to walk into and out of the ship....and I wanna be able to fly a shuttle into an imperial star destroyer, and be able to walk around the massive ship, and I.....I'm not too demanding, am I?

Well, l definitely like the idea of having of spreading the ship building process across the 4 Elite Enginering professions. You can have Architects design the hull and model type of the ship, and as previously suggested, Droid Engineers could create modules andcomponents for an onboard R Unit. Weaponsmiths I see with crafting Laser Cannons for fighter craft, and our Armorsmith friends could make shields from there shield generator knowledge, except on a larger (and more reliable) scale.

I dont really know where Tailors could fit in....I suppose they could make decals or racing stripes or something, lol. Sorry Chefs. No meals on these flights, or COULD there be? Hmm.....

Man Im really liking this idea now. We crafting folk could definitely clean up. It will take many different factors create really high-grade ships. Those PvP heavy players will definitely want the best ship they can get. Many a credit will cross our hands.

So what do the rest of you think? I know it'll take some work with the way you need 4 or 5 professions and all. But the devscant just cram it all into one profession. Cant make it like vehicle, no siree. But thats just the way i see it.

Well, I don't know about Chefs, perhaps they could make food that would increase some attribute related to piloting the ship. Tailors would probably just make flight suits but perhaps more varied ones. Image designers could offer the chance to repaint your ship after building it. There will probably be public painting stations, but an ID might offer more choice or a cheaper price.

If mining were in the game, like in most space games, then another branch going above surveyor might be good for mining efficency from asteroids and such (Ok, I know, I'm a big EVE fan, but it could work).
