Hey everyone. I'm a new crafter and plan to be a master merchant, weaponsmith and possibly an architect. I'm having trouble making any money. I can make harvesters but can't keep pace with the upkeep on them and so I have to mine by hand taking away time making money.

Does anyone have some good sound advice for me? Thanks.

Survey missions. Either just grab two missions, preferably of the same resource, go 1024 meters away from the mission terminal and start looking.

or

Go to a shuttleport, survey for minerals close to the shuttleport, at least 70% I believe. Use the huttle to go to another cuty far away from the one your in, survey there to see what you can find. Grab two missions in the new city with the resource in the old city, go back to the old city, finish the missions, get two new missions with resources in the new city, go to the new city and finish the missions. Rinca and repeat.

There are several no-skill methods to make money besides survey missions you can do as Novice Artisan.

Start reselling. Buy good (at least 30% max damage or speed) powerups by the case and sell individually for 1000 to 2000 apiece in an active combat area. Look for other things where you can buy low and sell high, you need to sell for at least half again your buy price.

Mine: buy cheap harvesters on the bazaar, start with a wind and one other. Put up the wind first on a 30% or better spot, the other one the next day with the energy you harvested. Sell most of it on the bazaar, but keep a little for your grind.

Use most of your profits to expand. If you are lucky, or when youfigure out what works, your assets will grow rapidly. This is capitalism at work, you need capital to make good money. In this game it is possible for a good, or lucky, newb to double your money every day or two. If this is your first character, tho, it may take you a while to learn what works.

Take every skill you qualify for untill you run out of skill points, they are all worth something. You may also find other interesting and profitable things to do like milking orhunting for valuable products (needs scout), or running destroy missions (takes Marksman or Brawler to do well). Medic and entertainer consume money at low levels, but the skills are useful to your own or your group's activities.

i spent most of my time working my way up on talus, and i know this works well there since there's only two non-player cities. i never did much with surveying missions (never had the patience) sothisprobablyisn't as profitable, but it sure is easy.

use the artisan mission terminals to take crafting missions. the last i checked there were the "in-town" missions that were cheap, and there were the "deliver to other town" missions that were about 650+ credits each. take two, get the components. build the thing (that way if you crit fail it you can dump that mission and get another), then get a round-trip shuttle ticket to the other city (like i said, this worked best for me on talus, other planets had too many places to possibly have to deliver to) and deliver stuff, take two more missions there to come home with.

the rough math works out to

(650 *4) - 230 = 2370 credits / 20 minutes or so depending on if you miss a shuttle.

Or if all else fails, grab novice pistoller and run some missions with people on Dantooine.
