No, you don't use HAM to craft.

Also there is no evidence that a higher (for example Mind) setting influences.

Your ability (artisan assembly) , and whether or not you are in a Research City do make a difference.

The toolsyou use (crafting tool / crafting station) at this time do not appear to make a difference.

Does a character's HAM affect his crafting abilities?

Higher quality tools and crafting stations theoreticallymake a difference in how often you are successful when you experiment and how successful you are when you do experiment (ie. good success, great success, etc.). You'll find very divided opinions on whether or not this is actually the case. However, all of the crafters that I know prefer to err on the side of caution and use high quality tools and stations... even the ones who swear the better tools don't make a difference.

Wounds seem to negatively affect your crafting rolls. I get far more moderates when my toon has many wounds on him.

I tried making some schematics last nightwith 71 health and 72 actions wounds. The results weren't pretty. It usually takes me just two or three attempts to get two perfect grenades schematics. With all those wounds it took me seven attempts plus one crtitical assembly failure before I had the two schematics that I needed.

Heal up your wounds (and probably your battle fatigue) before you do any crafting.
