you survey for some fiberplast, the area of 128m around you is all 68% Concentration but the colors are all different.

Teal

Light Red

Dark Red

Gray

Light Blue

what do all the different colors mean? Dark red is a given but anyone else know what the others are?????

I think it's intended to suggest the "intensity" of the 68% concentration. So dark red could be 68.8, light red 68.6, I think teal's next, then blue, then gray. It's a visual indicator of which direction the "vein" of material is going, the highest concentration in your survey area will always be red, the lowest grey.

That way even if your survey device is 68% all across the board, you have a way to tell which way to go to get to higher concentrations. If you head in the direction of the dark red numbers, you might get to a 69%, for example. Heading towards the blue or grey would lead towards 67%.

Are there any surveying tricks to finding the high resource concentrations?

Patience and persistence... but I wouldn't call those tricks really.

Honestly the only thing that makes surveying easier is experience. With time you'll start to recognize when a spawn isn't worth following at all and what areas of the planet are the most "extractor friendly." Other than that just make sure you have your tool set to it's maximum range and have fun!
