There are rumors that one of these purges just happened. Old names have come available, new people choosing these names are gettling /tells from friens of the old players, asking when they reactivated their accounts. So, just FYI, they do happen....

The devs have said that they have put the purge on hold for the time being but they WILL make an announcement before they do it.

Eventually yes. It just depends on how he goes about quitting... if he deletes his characters and then cancels his account, any buildings his characters have placed will go poofwhen his charactersare deleted.

However, if he doesn't delete his characters and just cancels his account, then the buildings he has placed should stay around until SOE deletes his account. In theory old accounts are deleted after six months, but my understanding is that is a loose policy at best.

Basically, once the other person is gone, everyday is a gamble. This is one of the main reasons that I personally avoid cross server lot swaps. I have a hard enough time keeping track of who's still around in my own galaxy let alone other galaxies. /salute to fallen comrades

they made an announcement a few weeks ago that they would be doing a purge in mid october sometime, and that they would now be doing it on either a monthly or bimonthly basis.

apparently they want the space back pretty bad now.
making room for jtl i suppose.

decided to do a quick search and here is the announcement from thunderheart:
In Live : Character Purge

Bug fixes. Heh! Smuggling. Heh! A Jedi craves not these things.

My SWG Observations

If they stopped the expansions for one year and gave quality revamps to the professions that need it most, many people would resubscribe.
With all the resubs, and the new players, there would then be plenty of money to hire enough people to do 2-4 quality revamps per year plus 1-2 larger expansions per year and/or 2-4 smaller expansions per year, and not give the BigWigs a pay cut. (Possibly even an increase)

Really its to clean up the database which is one really big weakpoint in SWG. But it's also to take care of some of the lot trades that happened across server lines. And people that have metropolis's with only really 10 real citizens. Im not a big fan of it. But its something that needs to be done to clean up a lot of little stuff. And if the person hasnt returned after six months then its kind of safe to assume they wont be suprised that their stuff didnt survive.

And yes I'm more then aware of his this effects the servicemen overseas. Which i believe is the real reason the purge is on hold.
