Thread: Something to think about before asking to nerf macros
I just started playing this game but here are a few observations I have made.
Some races (Rhodan in particular) are able to /sample indefinitely because they are able to regen faster than they use up their pool. These players do not need a macro and can just stay logged in 24 hours a day extracting resources. I am not sure if this is for all Rhodan but there are two next to me right now that have been /afk for hours and never stopped sampling.
Keep in mind that a player that is using a macro to sample cannot do other things. I cannot go explore with my friends and whatnot while a person that is using a harvester can.
From what I understand harvesters are slower but since they work 24/7 they are able to gather more resources than a PC. They cost maintenance to run and take up slots. However if you can afford to buy them you can extract multiple resources from using multiple harvesters and will easily extract much more resources than any player could possibly ever do.
I use a macro to extract my resources because it is too friggen boring to sit and hit the same keys over and over again for hours at a time. I tag myself /afk but am usually close enough to monitor my game if anything should happen. I do this because I cannot afford to buy harvesters yet. When I am able I doubt I will be doing manual extracting anymore because that will free me up to do other stuff.
I think the reason SOE doesn't want macro samplers is because you're not technically playing the game while doing it. Rather, you've set up a loop that continuously gains materials for you without having to put any additional commandments into the system. If one or two people did this, it would probably pass right under the radar, but a lot of artisans macro sample, and thus there's hundreds, if not thousands of players on a server that're doing nothing but grabbing resources. This means there's a lot of traffic on the servers, which can cause lag, or possibly a shutdown, which would be aggravating to other players who aren't macro sampling, and thus aren't responsible for it happening.
To put it simply, if you're on the game, play it. If you're in bed sleeping, log off. That's the reason they don't want you macro sampling.
Well hell, i Manually "macro" resources alot myself, just watch TV while i have my char online, and eventually he stands up, i notice in my pariphreal vision, and have him sit down, and then about a min later, have him go back to doing his thing, i can get 2k an hour doing it that way on a 90%+ resource.
Never macroed, didnt bother really. . . . but couldnt ANY char just move around their points to sample indefinately?
I don't think the devs intended to allow characters to sample indefintely. They wanted to nerf sampling speeds so that there would be LESS resources from sampling to foster people to use harvesters. Now, people can get MORE since they don't need to rest to regain pools.
I've got great STAM and CON so I regen action fast and my sampling has super-low cost action cost. So, my mind pool is impacted the most, so when I made my toon (prior to the nerf mind you) I upped my will and focus. I could sample for about 1/2 an hour before I needed to rest. Now, after the sample speed nerf, I can sample forever because I regen my mind pool to 100% in the 28 seconds it takes to do my next sample.
Its my action pool that drops the most with sampling now, im a Human btw.
But i could just stat migrate to fix that im sure.
