Thread: Experimentation Points?!
How do all of you people get your Experiment Points up so high you can hit 90%+ on things?!
Im Master Artisan, and ive used 800+ Components to make items, and NEVER gotten the ability or points to go above maybe 65% (And that IS with filling the meters that restrict how high you can go)
What am i doing wrong?
It could be related to the materials you are using. If you have not done so already, check out that little bit about crafting they put on the main site last week.
I have never seen anything over 45%, but I have not put much effort into optimizing my materials either.

Artuk
Ah- Replace Components Above with Resources.
Ive used 800-900+ Overall Quality Resources on things, for all levels, and also 700+ with 800+Malleability (since i read that its important in armorcrafting especially) And have yet to go above 65% with ANY experimentation attempt.
Resource quality definately has something to do with it. I can regularly make small items, like weapon powerups, at 94%. I took all of the dom arts, which give extra artisan experiment points. I'm also human, which gives an extra few points. I've noticed a difference in experimentation when I just use cheap materials. I think the most I've gotten with low grade stuff is about 80%. I have a total of 11 experiment points, but I rarely even have to use them all on the small items.

ill have to experiment (no pun intended) more when i get home today then, i want to make awesome powerups for my gun when i hunt, but thus far i cant get past 50%, but maybe i just didnt use the right things.
Know what will be best on them? Copper, steel, aluminum? Or is it all based on the stats of it resources not the kind?
Weapons(at least CDEFs) and weapon powerups are best made with resources high in both conductivity, and quality. You can get a feel for what will best make an item by looking at the schematic. It will say something like Experiment damage: Conductivity 50%, resource quality 50%, etc. (this is from memory, so it's not exact) Other items will need decay resistance, malleability, etc. Hope this helps ya.

Okay, I'm a human Master Artisan (+10 species bonus). Taking all the domestic arts and Eng skills (and MA?) gives you the experimentation points you'll need.
Here is the simplified formula for the theoretical maximum you can get with experimentation (assuming you have enough points, and luck in results, to get you there) as I understand it.
Critical Stat Weight (from spec) * Critical Stat Value (from resources) / 1000 (max resource stat) =Theoretical maximum stat.
If there are multiple critical stats, run the right hand sideof thisformula for each, and add the results. I say simplified, because I don't know howdifferent assembly spots are weighted (equally, or by quantity)
So take the example of weapon powerups. The Durabilty (or decay rate, or whatever) is 100% Overall Quality (OQ) andthe Experimental Effectiveness (EE) is100% based on OQ as well.
So I want to get the best stats, so I'm only concerned with experimenting my EE stat. I look for a high OQ mineral and Chemical to fill the spec. I take6 units of 989 OQ Aluminum and 4 units 995 OQ Lube Oil.
I'll assume that the assembly spots are weighted equally, and take the average OQ of all resources. From the formula above, I know:
(100%OQ crit stat weight) * ((989 OQ Al + 995 OQ Lube ) / 2 slots ) / 1000 (resource maximum) = 1 * 992 / 1000 = 99.2% maximum. This shows how far, given good results and enough exp. points, how far I can get it.
(following is from memory, consider it approximate...)
I run the spec and get 29% Durabiltiy and 29% Experimental Effectiveness and then choose experiment. I have something like 15 points. I choose to max out the EE bar, run experiment and get 86%, max out again 92%, again 99%, and then use my last point in Durability. I end up with 35/99 for stats. The resulting "Tuned Muzzle of Flaring" (or whatever its called) ends up with just above +33% to maximum damage and +16% Point Blank Penalty (all stats are bonuses).
I find I get the best results from a well experimented crafting tool, and the public crafting stations. I have a private crafting station, but rarely get above 60% with that one. Incidentally, you can usually find my muzzles in Bria.Naboo.Keren (Lianoram Swamp) fro 4-500 credits... to add a shameless plug... ![]()

With power-ups, it looks like the experimentation is related more to overall quality rather than conductivity or anything else that's involved in crafting the weapons themselves, so look for something with high Overall Quality. If you fail to find some, I'll sell it to you ;-)
