Thread: AFK Macroing?

Now that the Holocron says that AFK macroing is okay, it's gotta be asked. Why is it only okay for entertainers?

Macro surveying was intentionally defeated as a means of getting surveying XP but dancers and musicians are explicitly allowed to gain unattended XP?

Give me a shadowed forest into which I might disappear.
Give me a terrible foe and stack the odds against me.
Give me friends and creatures with whom I can share my adventures, my losses and my gains.
Let the gales blow and the world be torn asunder but don't make me stand alone against the tempest.

you're going to have to link me to that one.. it was my understanding that afk sampling was intentially done away with to avoid people from getting resources via afk sampling rather than using a harvester..

considering that getting survey XP was so easy (if anyone macroed this then that is just sad).. i don't see much concern to block it..

but getting a lot of resources without a harvester while macroing it i can see as a problem..

A) How did they get rid of AFK sampling

B) When did they get rid of AFK sampling

Supposidly with the popup that happens every now and then that asks if you want to continue or go after an especially rich sample..

i have never tried to AFK sample so i can't say if it really works or not..

Ok here's the deal with that:

If you're macroing and that pops up, you won't sample that time around (however you it will cost the same action and mind as though it were a normal sampling attempt). If you're AFK and that window stays up, the next cycle (30 secs later) will be a normal sampling attempt. So you lose a few samples here and there but overall it doesn't really affect anything.

Stupid question alert:

Who says only entertainers can do it? Does the holocron say that specifically? I highly doubt that it does. As far as I know, AFK macros are allowed for any profession, though they seem largely abused by combat professions.

I think the only reason that SoE / people in general are a little more open to entertainer AFK macroing is that if the entertainer does not actually spam in the macro for tips and heals (lame) they are providing a service in healing wounds and fatigue other players have aquired over time. If this was not allowed and people were kicked/banned for AFK macro entertaining, it would no doubt be alot harder for entertainers to gain xp (group sizing) and also alot harder to find an entertainer to heal your mind wounds and battle fatigue as people would drift away from the profession..

I mean come on, don't tell me you have never been in a situation where you have had silly fatigue and been thankfull to see an AFK entertainer (say at the Dantooine mining outpost) but when was the last time you walked past someone macro foraging and though, thank god he just sapped all of the items out of the area which might have helped me.. Or walked past an AFK camp grinder and thought, well if he wasnt stood there putting that camp up and down I would be in serious trouble..

Foraging was intended to be done a few times to get items, as is shown by the fact area's run out of items after a few attempts forcing you to move on, dancing/music was meant to be done constantly until you master the profession and from then onalso is the only way to gain xp in those professions..

I think there are alot of distinct differences between AFK entertaining and all other forms of XP gain via AFK macros.

Since the last update command line crafting command don't seem to work for me any more.

Like /nextCraftingStage and /createPrototype practice no item

Why is it the devs seem to look for ways to make life harder. Is their server populations so high they feel the need to drive people away from the game?

This was supposed to be fun but it gets more and more frustrating with every publish. Why does it matter if you macro your crafting steps?

While many of the new developments are great I feel the DEVELOPERS themselve are evil PR%CKS that find enjoyment in the misery of others. A lot of folks I started playing this game with have moved on because of the DEVS vicious manipulation and destruction of the players inventive solutions to the problems they encounter during play.

"/nextcraftingstage" wasn't working forme the other day either, however "/createprototype practice no item" still does, I was running my WS crafting macro this morning. Try replacing "/nextcraftingstage" with just "/next"

The Holocron does not say it's only okay for Entertainers, however they are the only profession I'm aware of who hasn't had steps taken to prevent AFK macroing in some form.
