I can't remember the xp amount but its alot more than anything else you have available in Artisan. I did exactly that crafted vehicles to get Novice DE. I would say if you have the resources, then its definately the way to go. It was like 20 vehicles or something and I was done.

It usually works to 2xp for crafted, 2.3ish xp for practiced items, per resource involved. I made one of each and it got me novice tailor and then some

The exp/resource you get for making vehicles is very low compared to other artisan type items. It's a nice one time chunk, but making personal harvesters gives much more exp per unit of resoruces than vehicles.
