Can someone please explain to me why there are so many ranged power up schematics like:

grip, coupler, scope, stock, muzzle, barrell, ect....

1. As far as I can tell no matter which one you select you get a completly random effect regardless of which one youare making.

2. You can onlyone one on a weapon at a time(in otherwords you can not have a scope and a muzzle on you weapon at the same time).

3. They all have the same material cost to build and give the same XP for crafting.

So what is the difference between each one? If there is no difference what the heck is the point of having so many things that do the exact same thing? They seem to have only 1 melee weapon power up kit and 1 mine kit, 1 grenade kit, ect. Why so many ranged weapon powerups that all do the same thing?

Please tell me what I am not understanding here !!!

PS What is the Stock used for? It says ranged weapon power up, but every time I try to place one on my pistol it says the stock can not be used with that weapon. This game really needs better descriptions of what things are used for.

The stock is the bit of the gun that goes against your shoulder, ie the back part of a rifle etc.

You will not see, except in very rare exceptions, stocks on pistols since a pistol is a short range handgun and a stock would do jack except negate the reason for haveing a small weapon such as a pistol (ie compactness etc)

So i guess that is why on cannot add stocks to pistols, they IRL just dont have em. (again with some minor exceptions which are usually the rare pistol than can get a full auto or burst fire capability - IRL)

A pistol is not classed as a ranged weapon either. Ranged weapons refer to rifles and carbines, just as in RL. So the description is correct.

Different mods do diff stuff if you use the same materials, if you use pegofac (steel) for all of them you get, Couplers= increase max damage, Grips= increase max speed, Barrels= increase wound chance,

the second material also matters, switch em up make all mods and keep notes, that is what I do.

WilgarHasha,

All of the powerups (barrel, coupler, muzzle, ect) are labled as Ranged weapon power ups and they all work fine on pistols. So your theory on pistol not being a ranged weapon is incorrect. Besides the Ranged weapon branch of the marksmen skill tree effects all three weapon types (rifle, pistol, and carbine) so a pistol is without question a ranged weapon. The stock is the only one that does not work on pistol and the other poster's explanation that they are only for rifles makes more sense. I guess that should really be stated in the description for those of us who do not use guns in real life.

Everyone else,

Also the theory that each type of power up gives a specific power does not seem correct either. I too (as the previous poster noted), have tried making one type of thing with the same resources each time and gotten different boost effects. I have also seen every type of boost on every type of powerup so it does appear to be random and does not matter whichone you started with.

And no,the powerups do not change the appearence of your weapon in any way.

So I ask again. Why do they have all these different ranged weapon powerups that all create the same random effects? Can anyone tell me any reason why you might choose one type over the other tobuild?

I think both sides are right here: The mods on the power-ups are random, and different power-ups affect different stats. That is, each power-up type draws on a different pool of mods randomly, or draws from the same pool as the others with different chances of having a certain mod. So, while there's no way to guarantee a power-up with a specific mod, your chances of getting an increased attack speed mod are highest with a grip, damage with couplers, range with scopes, and so on.

Scerek I don't think that's correct. I've built multiple muzzles all out of the same material and got different modifiers every time. It's seems to be pretty much accepted that the resulting power up is going to be totally random.

Something I just thought of (I'm at work and can't try it)... does adding a power up toa weapon actually change the weapon's appearance in your character's hand? Because I have to agree with the original poster, I can't see a reason for each of the different powerup schematics if they all have the same chance to make any given powerup.

To answer your question, no, they do not change the look of the weapon. The only reason MOST people make them is because they are quick to make and give good xp. But I just make Structure, Clothing, and Weapon tools which give 60-65 xp each everytime. They take longer to make, true, but if you have 2 generic crafting tools, it is no problem.
