Thread: Looking for was to guarentee a decent gun.....
I am almost at engineering 4 and want to know if there are certain materials i should use and what boosters to use to get the most damage out of a gun....I am not sure if at this lvl i should even worry about it but my friends are finding guns on the bazaar that are better than the ones I can make and I want to be able to supply them with the weapons so there is less time wasted on finding decent guns. I am aiming at becoming a weaponsmith so any info on this would be appreciated.
Thanks!
different types of materials will give you better or worse quality items
depending on the item, your skill level, etc. I've got Eng IV, and am
routinely creating powerup barrels that give something like +7% wound chance,
and +3.5% or something like that in maximum damage. That is a LOT better than
what I was getting with Eng II while using Aluminum. Now I'm using the
Armophous Gemstone (forget the full name) and the one Chemical component that
starts with As... (again cant remember the same exactly). The quality with
those materials is MUCH better than with aluminum, so (and as other people have
stated) it definitely depends on what materials you use to craft your items.
For the purposes of gaining XP to gain skill, just pick whatever is close and
in large quantities. To make a better item, experiment. I'm trying to keep
track of what materials produce better or worse items and trying to make some
kind of rudimentary chart. Hopefully I'll have the time to fill in all the
blanks when I finally get to be a Droid Engineer and can stop crafting all the
menial stuff and get to my goal!
Hope that helps!

Alright I guess I can let my secret out, because I only craft for my personal use and not for cash.
I only have engineering 2, and I was making this when I only had eng 1. Use Pegofac (steel) for the gun or mods and you will get real powerful results. I am sure there are better combos, but at eng 1 I created a CDEF pistol stronger than most D18, I also created Hair triggers that gave +7.789 to fire speed, and Couplers that added +7.*** to Max damage,
This is pretty obvious to more advance artisans, but hope it helps out some.
CDEF Rifle
24-58 damage
3.5 delay
Muzzles
increased damage +6% to 18%
These are with 8 expirementing points and all great successes. I know there is better material out there. Just gotta keep looking.
Pay attention to the bottom right panel of the crafting tool. Valueable info there.

My cdefs are like this
I use High Quality Metals like Weidan Copper and then a High Quality Chem like Relocine.
It results in a 20% Experimentation on Damage and a 15% Experimentation on Effectiveness
I use all I believe 12 Experimentation Points that i have on Damage and Experimenation.. then Range if i've maxed those out.
my weapon powerups usually yield 20%+ on their bonus. Working right now to see if Experimenting on making a better Crafting Tool will help....
I hate to give away my secrets but here goes...
First of course you have to use high quality materials. The chemical Aekoovy and copper Carbopirlalaism are great for weapons crafting because they're both very high in overall quality and the copper has very good conductivity. Keep in mind these two minerals are only found on Tatooine. I don't think most people realize different worlds yield different materials.
Second, try to get ahold or make high quality tools. The weapons crafting tool should be made from the best material and I believe the primary stat is overall quality.
Third, you don't have to use all of your experimentation points at the same time. You can run multiple experiments so long as you have points left. So what you do after crafting the item is throw one point towards damage, run experiment. Throw another point, run experiment. Etc. The fewer points you use the lower the failure rate so you can pretty much guarantee a high quality item.
Do the same thing with the weapon powerups and you'll be smoking all the womp rats and nunas. I've made several weapon powerups which add up to 22% max damage or 20% to attack speed. In my experience couplers are the best to make because they're a much lower difficulty level. If you get lucky you can get twogood mods instead of one good and one bad.

1) Use only top quality materials for your weapons. People keep listing steels, but the best material for CDEF's is COPPER. Yes, COPPER. You can find copper out there that has ENORMOUS Conductivity rating and Overall Quality, the two things you need most. Is it as durable? No, but a CDEF isn't made to last forever. Using the right materials, I start at 26% experimental damage. Same for power ups.
2) Don't neglect your Domestic Skills. No you don't NEED them to advance, but each one gives you another experimentation point. As a Human with ENG IV and DOM II, I have a total of 9 experimentation points. That allows me to experiment max points in Damage, then once that's done, experiment one more point to tweak it even further.
Tonight I turned out 30-61 in each of the three CDEF lines. BEFORE powerups. And +30% powerups, as well.
