I do not understand how artisans work. All I know about the artisan class is that they "build stuff".

Well, can you explain to me, how do they level? How do you become a droid engineer, armorsmith etc.?How do you earn Exp as an artisan?

I've tried starting an artisan in the game, and its just really confusing, I even checked my strategy guide, its the most vague useless waste of trees ever....

1) Survey. You get XP for surveying.

2) Build stuff. You get crafting XP for building stuff.

3) Level. Check your skills page, it looks like the lighting bolt. When you have enough XP to level in a area you find a trainer and you get better.

Oh, there are lots of things you can do as an artisan and it all depends on what you are looking to do? If you are looking to be a Droid Engineer, you have to focus on gaining General Crafting exp, which you can get by making almost any kind of item. Once you get to Droid Engineer, you can then branch out and focus on certain aspects of droids or do a more complete set of skills to be able to make droids. The same goes for armorsmiths, weaponsmiths, tailors and chefs. You can also branch out into other such lucrative trades as "spicer" and maybe even "smuggler". I wouldn't count those as "useless" :-)

As far as what we can make, I would say "just about anything". In my time in game (all of four days now, I've built armor, weapons, camps (for new scouts), crafting tools, food, drinks, clothing, droid parts, stimpacks, and fireworks. Heck, i've even been able to custom design the color scheme for my clothing after reaching Domestic Arts III. I've also mastered surveying, so on a single survey sweepI can encompass the entire town of Daeric on Talus and a pretty nice area outside of it. With higher levels, I will even be able to experiment and attempt to create items with special qualities. So the sky really is the limit. It is probably one of the most open ended gaming experiences I have ever played. Not only can you craft things (sometimes on the fly as you travel somewhere), you can also branch out. I've gotten to intermediate carbine, medic I and novice scouting that will help me in my time in the field as i survey for that extra special deposit of my favorite mineral. I love artisan more than any class in the game, because when people need something, they come to me :-)

Make sure you dont go to an NPC trainer. They charge 1000 credits to train you. I made this mistake at first. Just ask someone (a real player) to train you. Most will do it for free. If you have money tip them
