I built my harvester in a crowded area with lots of other harvesters... how close do I have to build a wind generator to be able to have it run the harvester... and what are my other options for powering the harvester?

It doesn't matter where they are. The wind generator will produce units of (wind) power that can be removed from its hopper. You must then take those units of power and put them into the harvester (through radial menu) to power the harvester. For all intents and purposes, the generator and harvester could be on seperate planets and it wouldn't matter.

I was explaining to a friend of mine (he doesn't play SWG) how the power works in the game (i.e. you carry units of power to things you want powered.) He seemed rather put off that you didn't have the ability to "run a power cord from the generator to the harvester," as well as harvest units of power.

As far as I understand it, power is broken now. All you need to do is stick in one unit of power on a harvester and it will run forever.

I expect this to be fixed eventually though.

No it runs down and out of power and stops. at lest it does for me. And think of it as not moving power units and moving battrys. I wish you could just say link the buildings togther or something that makes more sense but I can live with the battary idea for now. Also you don't need wind/sun power you can also just mine radioactive ore and protochems and use them as power to.
