Thread: The ball and chain (quasi-rant)
Droids.... wouldn't it be nice if the Driod makers could craft a driod that would run back and fourth from all our harvesters, settling up the maintenance and power, collecting the resources and bring them back to our homes? Even Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru had droids to help on the Moisture farm.
This would help us Miners, and really add value to the droid proffesion.
Add to that:
How 'bout droids that can deliver items to places? I'm a doctor and a medical crafter. I think it would be pretty cool if I could get a mouse droid to deliver medicines to my fellow doctors at my nearby hospital.
Ideally, I'l be at my house crafting, get an order from a fellow doctor, and then I'd place the order in droid that I have already set up with a patrol point at the hospital, and already friended the other doctor (so he can access contents), and then send the droid on his way. Is this how it's supposed to work once we can access a mouse droid's storage space?
I am not a big fan of rent. Rent (read: maintenance) in the current crafting system feels too much like handcuffing the user to the game, preventing the casual player from being truly casual. I'll conceed that many are entertained by plugging money and power into harvesters as a gambling addict plugs a nickel slot machine, but is this truly the crafting atmosphere Sony/VI was aiming for? With the current resource model the only way to be comfortable taking a break from "The Game" without having your industrial empire crumble to dust is to already be incredibly wealthy, which requires weeks of play to begin with. Why shouldn't I be able to fully automate everything including my maintenance deposits so I can be comfortable that my fortune is in good hands while I'm logged off? I don't find running errands a productive gaming experience - I find it tedious.
That being said, I do think that maintenance fees add a degree of realism and difficulty that is much needed in the crafting professions. They also provide a method for the game designers to control explosive manufacturing growth.
Thoughts?
