According to the in-game graphics, your "swoop" bike is NOT the fastest. It's actually the "speeder" bike.

SOURCE: http://www.starwars.com/databank/vehicle/owenbike/index.html

Notice it says this: "Owen let Anakin Skywalker use the speeder during his search for Shmi, who had been abducted by Tusken Raiders."

Using the picture on the right, Anakin is indeed riding a swoop bike.

Now, this bike has a top speed of 350KPH and a range of 3,000KM (source= http://www.starwars.com/databank/vehicle/owenbike/?id=eu).

However, the 74-Z, a.k.a. the speeder bike, has a maximum speed of 500KPH. This comes in both a civilian model, and an Imperial model which comes with a single laser cannon and several communications devices. (source = http://www.starwars.com/databank/vehicle/speederbike/)

So you are, in fact, wrong. Very wrong. Now if the DEVs want to go against StarWars.com be my guest. But the last time I checked they were trying to maintain StarWars continuity.

From what I read around the site, a number of places said that the swoop is the middle, the speeder the fastest. That's how I thought it was, with the vehicles condition lowering as the speed raised. Which is why I want a swoop for myself.

As far as I know the vehicles statistics on the Text center are not final, and will be changed when they go live.

There is "Correct for Star Wars" and "Accurate to the current state of SWG". You should choose your words carefully.

Ok history of SWG lesson for you.

1st on test center the Speeder bike (from ROTJ) was the fastest & most expensive. It also said so in the manual.

2nd on the test center update before I was appointed the message "Swoop and speeder bike speeds swapped". That would make the Swoop the fastest.

3rd there have been no speed changes since then.

Accurate to the current state of SWG the swoop is the fastest.

You may be correct on the model of speeder that Anikin Skywalker used when he was a teenager. However, nearly TWENTY years later when the 74-Z was created are you sure that a new Swoop bike has not been fasioned with a faster engine? As vvornth's link points out "Some swoops can attain speeds approaching 600 kilometers per hour". Which would place new swoop bikes ahead of similar-era 74-Z's.

I will report this to the "Star Wars-y" correspondant.

Interesting...

First the PM brought it to my attention and i showed the Devs. I left in their hands to talk to Lucasarts and discuss which is fastest. They came back with their answer, swoops are faster then bikes. How they came up with it, i have no clue.. but it got me thinking maybe that wasnt right...

So i pulled out my Essentials Guide to Vehicles and found out the swoop is in fact faster then the more reliable speederbike. In fact the swoops are like throwing a rocket on the back of a motorcycle, sure it goes faster, but its highly unstable and harder to mantain. The speederbike was used by the Empire military so it needed to be cheaper to make and more efficient (ie more reliable).

So the change was made, one that was backed up by at least one book. I leave it to the Devs and Lucasarts to say whats canon and whats not. However your Artisan corespondent is just reporting what the devs give us.

There was a large debate on this... with all kinds of documentation. The 74-Z swoop is the "girly-man" model of a real swoop - the kind that swooper gangs wouldn't be caught dead riding. Real road swoops can practically go orbital.

That's canon, apparently.

That seems to indicate that the swoop should have a higher maint cost? or perhaps lower max condition points (requires more frequent repairs)? Deffinately something to be reconsidered.
