hi, maybe a stupid question here but (had a quick look in the faq first);
once i have a vendor up and running, if i drop the artisan prof will the vendor remain?

Right now: yes.
In the future: probably not.
Last week's merchant question to TH (look for his "19 Answers" thread on the In Live forum) was on just this situation. TH replied that this is not intended, since it allows people to get the benefit of Merchant (or Business III) without spending the skill points.
He didn't give any details on when it's going to be changed, or how. After the vendor revampmy guessis that if you try to access a vendor when you don't have the skills to manage it, you can't put items up for sale, and may not be able to pay maintenance. This would prevent items getting lost from vendors just"poofing" when you drop the skill, and allows players to shuffle their inventory across multiple vendors if they only drop a few merchant skills. Or there might be a check when you try to surrender the skill, and if you have too many active vendors you can't drop the skill box until a vendor is destroyed.
