Thread: Purpose of Survey Droids

I bought two packs of survey droids and used one just to try them out. I don't get it, they only tell you the name of the resources, no stats. I was under the impression that resources came and went (like they never reappear). Am I mistaken? Is there some kind of resource cycle (so Idiokiam copper will appear again on Chilastra )? Has anyone come across a detailed resource database online so that anyone wanting to know which minerals are worth going after can get their stats from the name?

Thanks a bunch,
Thryss

Search the forums, somewhere he has a list of all materials ever spawned on all servers (as much as was recorded on his site anyways). It's brilliant, one of the best fan sites I have ever seen in any game.

swgcraft also has a great resource program that you can download. It's connects to their website and downloads all the resources that are currently identified on each planet. It gives you stats, names, how long it's been spawning, etc. You can also sort all the information and filter out what you don't want. Kick @ss

I'm relieved. I thought I was the only one who saw no benifit in these new droids. If I was a DE I'd be really upset!

yes, you can go to a web site that relies on players to sent in recource info. But dont start whining when I get a full day of mineing in on that ultra-high stated recource that didnt hit your "recerch" site till 4pm, and is a single day spawn.

ok, so you are going to spend 1k per planet per day to see what may be out there? That is 9k a day to see what MIGHT have changed!! I for one will stick with SWGcraft and if I only get a few hours out of the spawn, so be it. I can tell you it won't be the last time that has happened.

And as far as the updates are concerned I don't notice any delay, if anything it is about 30 mins at the most. And I CAN tell you he stats of the Ultra-High resource where as you have to go out there and sample it yourself and see if you really want 100k of the Dolovite Iron with the OQ=10.

You would have to send out droids to all the planets every day at server reset in order to do this. And if you are that diligent, you would have out mined everyone else anyway.

The truth is that these droids are for people who don't know or don't care about sites like swgcraft.com, and aren't guilded and don'thave a good resource network. Name competitive crafters who meet these conditions.

But that is the cynic in me talking. Maybe a few people find these droids useful. Good for the DE's who bother to stick out the profession.

Well, I've thought up a couple uses for them myself. As a chef, I'm usually looking for good flora, which (except for Dant berries and Lok wheat) has a longer update lag time on swgcraft, since fewer people gather that data, especially on non-core planets. If I do find some good stuff on an adventure planet like Endor or Yavin and place a harvester, I can use a survey droid every couple of days to make sure the resource hasn't shifted out without paying the shuttle to actually go the planet.

My ideal design, though, would have been to have the droid's report be more detailed if you have more survey skills. A full report with all stats at Master Artisan, maybe the highest one or two numbers at survey IV, and a "Low/Medium/High quality" judgement based on the stat's average at survey II.

I guess I'm responding to the 2 that are trying to shoot down my argument here. I am a Master DE. I dont pay any more than the materials. My main focus for surveying is gas, and mineral. I have been keeping my price to where my coustomers spent about the same as they would to fly to any planet from where my shop is. Now as a artisen to have surveying skills and even do anything with the info you get back all that it costs you beyond the droid pack is you makeing a survey tool. While your hanging out waiting for the droid to get you the info you can do other stuff.

Personaly I dont see the down side and I'd have to say that most on my server agree.I've beendoing constant factory runs of survey droids for the last 2 days. Now, is it realy that you dont like the droid or that your not getting people asking you to go see whats on thats planet anymore? I remember doing that, and people /tip ing me for it. Now the people who used to bug me to go take a look and see if it's even there are buying droids from me to send out. Economicly, the suvey runner has been replaced. Thats all.

Exactly. I do agree with haveing a master artisn get more detaled info. I just dont see it hapening.

Another thing I forgot to mention on my last pst is you know all the artisans can get in to the act with the survey droids too. start doing factory runs of sruvey tools to seel to the people that dont want to take the time to make the things them selves.

I think these droids might have more usefulness in that we can tell when a resource has shifted OUT rather than in. Out-shift reportingon swgcraft has a lot more latency.

shift outs would seem more of a deal for me. Remember not only do you have the trip out to the planet to see if your resources are still there but you have the trip back as well.

With the survey droid you log on, walk out to your porch (if you log off in your house). Send out your droids to check your off planet harvesters. Answer your emails, do a factory run whatever. Half an hour or so later you have whats there.

Also work great in looking for named resources. I know with DE most of the time the stats on the named stuff is not as important as just the name, knowing that Ditanium Steel or Lidium extrusive ore just popped on Dantooine is pretty important.

The problem with this, is if you are tracking stuff with multiple tools. I currently track mineral, chemical, gas, flora and water. On average there is something to new to sample on every planet every day when you track so many resources.

As for swgcraft, that site is *WAY* to innaccurate for me!
